MC in dire straits; contractors await dues

Yesterday's incident in which an elderly contractor tried to commit suicide inside the Ludhiana Municipal Corporation's Zone A office has exposed the poor fiscal condition of the civic body. The MC is trying hard to recover outstanding dues from residents, but does not seem to have been too successful.

Dept gets tough on tax evasion

Gang of poppy husk smugglers busted

The Dehlon police has busted a gang of poppy husk smugglers with the arrest of Kamaljit Singh, alias Booty, a resident of Bilga village in Jalandhar district. The kingpin identified as Bagga Singh of Kadola village, manged to escape. 22 bags of the contrabands, weighing around six quintal, and a Tempo Traveller ( PB 56 B- 3880) were seized from the possession of the accused.
