2 held for bid on Bholi Mahant's life
Ludhiana, November 24
Imtiaz Ahmed, alias Bhola, a native of Balliyan, Bihar, and Ramji Paswan, also a native of Bihar, who stay in Gobindgarh, Dhandari Kalan, were arrested by the Salem Tabri police and have been remanded in police custody till November 29 for a murder attempt on Bholi Mahant, a eunuch from the Peeru Banda area in Salem Tabri, here last evening.\

Dept gets tough on tax evasion

To crack the whip on defaulters who charge VAT from consumers but do not deposit it or deposit a small part of it with the department, the Excise and Taxation Department has initiated a special drive to curb tax evasion.

Gang of poppy husk smugglers busted
Mandi Ahmedgarh, November 24
The Dehlon police has busted a gang of poppy husk smugglers with the arrest of Kamaljit Singh, alias Booty, a resident of Bilga village in Jalandhar district. The kingpin identified as Bagga Singh of Kadola village, manged to escape. 22 bags of the contrabands, weighing around six quintal, and a Tempo Traveller ( PB 56 B- 3880) were seized from the possession of the accused.
