3 hurt in accident
Ambala, November 24 The driver of the car who sustained serious injuries was taken to Chandigarh, while the driver of the school bus and a student were taken to Mehndiratta Hospital at Ambala City. The hospital authorities said the student was discharged after administering first aid, while the
driver was admitted to the hospital. The school bus carrying 46 students was on its way to Chandigarh. The students were being taken to The Tribune office to show them the process of publication
of newspaper. Near Ambala City, a Swift Dzire car coming from the opposite direction reportedly collided with an electric pole located on the divider, overturned and reached the other lane. The school bus driver applied the breaks on time to prevent a collision. The director of the school, Ish Mehta, said all the children were safe, while the driver had sustained a minor injury.

Burglars strike at two shops, gurdwara

November 24 Another shopkeeper, Lachman Kumar, also reported that thieves had taken away Rs 25,000 and coupons for mobile phone recharge worth Rs 5,000 from his shop last night. There were also reports of burglary at Gurdwaras. President of Gurdwara Singh Sabha Laftain Singh and block samiti member Satnam Singh reported a Rs-5,000 theft from the cash box of
the Gurdwara. The police said the investigaton was being carried out.

Former constable caught stealing mobile phones
Chandigarh, November 24 The police said, the accused identified as Satish Kumar, visited Anmol Watches and asked the employees to show him latest handsets. The accused then selected two handsets and started checking the features of the mobile phone. Meanwhile, some other customers arrived at the shop and the salesman got busy with them. Taking advantage, the accused picked up both the mobile phones and tried to flee, but was nabbed by the alert salesman. “The salesman recognised the accused as he had stolen a mobile phone a few days ago from that shop and had kept a close watch on him, and as soon as he tried to move out of the shop, the staff members nabbed him and called the police”, stated the police. The accused who was posted at Nabha in Patiala district was dismissed from his services in 2005. The police has also recovered a Samsung mobile phone that was stolen by the accused from the shop during in his earlier visit. A case at the Sector 17 police station has been registered and an inquiry has been initiated. |

Two die in separate road accidents
Chandigarh, November 24 A sixty-year old died in a road accident early this morning after a two-wheeler he was riding on hit a pushcart near Panjab University’s Gate No 3. The police said, Rajinder Pal Singh (60) died while he was on his way to the Dhanas Lake for a morning walk. Singh, a resident of Sector 37, who was riding a scooter rammed into a pushcart reportedly due to the low visibility in the morning. Singh was rushed to the Government Multi Specialty Hospital (GMSH)-16 by the PCR vehicle where doctors declared him brought dead. A case has been registered. In another incident, a 21-year-old girl died while another three were injured when the car they were travelling in was hit near the Sector 32-33 roundabout at around 3.30 am. The police stated that there were four youths, including two girls, travelling in the car at the time of the accident. A case has been registered. — TNS |

Suicide bid by 22-year-old woman
Mohali, November 24 Sources said
Bharti, a tele-operator in HDFC Bank, was under depression following allegations of theft of Rs 7,500 by her
roommate. Bharti’s brother Palwinder Singh is also staying in a paying guest
accommodation. Palwinder Singh alleged that Bharti's roommate accused her of stealing Rs 7,500.
Palwinder, along with Bharti’s colleagues, met the girl, following the incident. The sources added that Bharti's roommate had passed remarks at Bharti when she returned home this evening. “She called us up saying she would commit suicide. She was lying in a pool of blood," said one of her colleagues.

Chain snatched in Sec 15
Chandigarh, November 24 The police said, Kusam Thakur, resident of house no 1214, alleged that two unknown persons on a Pulsar motorcycle sped away after snatching her gold chain near her residence. The complainant stated that she failed to note down the registration number of the motorcycle. A case has been registered.
