Farmers seek payments
Ambala, November 15 According to arhtiyas, the Food and Supply Department has to pay the arrears of about Rs 40 crore to farmers. Another procurement agency, HAFED, too, has not made payments to farmers for the last one week. The president of the Ambala Arhtiyas Association, Dooni Chand Danipur, said the farmers were constantly visiting the shops of arhtiyas for getting their payments but they would be able to make payments only when the procurement agency paid the arrears to them. An arhtiya, Bharat Bhushan Aggarwal, who is also the president of the BJP trader cell, said when he contacted a senior officer of the department in this regard, he said they were managing funds and the arrears would be cleared soon. He has urged the Chief Minister to intervene in the matter so that they get their payments quickly. Meanwhile, the District Food & Supply Controller said he had had informed the higher authorities and as soon as he received funds payments would be made. The District Food and Supply Department has purchased 8.60 lakh quintals of paddy and HAFED 11.15 lakh quintals of grain this year. |
