SSP seeks public cooperation
Fatehgarh Sahib, Nov 11 The district police has launched a vigorous campaign against the drug peddlers and the addicts and the NGOs should come forward in extending all sort of help to the police in eradicating this menace from society for ever as it is a blot on the face of society, said SSP, HS Mann, while addressing the police public meet at Sirhind today. He said that there is a need of the hour to save our generations from drug abuse. He said that to present a people friendly face and to repose the faith of people in the police, such meetings are being organised in all the towns of the district. The police is for the people and the life and property of the people would be protected and law and order will be maintained at every cost, said he. The Community Police Officer (CPO) system is being introduced in an improved manner in all the towns. The ex-servicemen will be deployed at the CPOs round the clock. The police has sought applications from them. The scheme would be introduced with the co-operation of the people, as the people of the area will contribute for their salary. The Senior Superintendent of Police, HS Mann said that besides this, the PCR system is being strengthened and two policemen will patrol their area round the clock and they will be available on the call with in no times. He called upon the people to come forward with their suggestions to improve the working and to strengthen the relations. — OC |

Survey to detect cancer patients
Fatehgarh Sahib, Nov 11 He said to detect the exact number of cancer cases in rural and urban areas, the field workers of the health department will be deployed and these workers will be especially trained for the survey. He said the district health department has registered 74 cancer patients in the district and an amount of Rs 78,21,900 have been given to them from the Chief Minister Cancer Relief Fund. Nodal Officer, Dr Jagpal Singh, said in the first phase, the district programme officers will be given training at State Institute of Health and family welfare and further the field workers will be trained by these officers. Besides, 392 ASHA workers, 21 ASHA facilitators, 82 ANM’s and eight Male workers will be given training. The NGO’s and other departments will also be involved in this task, he added. |

Youth run over by truck, dies
Kalka, November 11 The accident took place on the NH-22 near Kalka-Pinjore Railway crossing, when the truck rammed into his motorcycle. Subsequently, the truck crushed the head of the deceased and Abhilash died on the spot. The deceased was working as a marketing representative with a company in Chandigarh. The police has arrested the driver and impounded his truck. |
Bag containing cash, gold stolen from wedding
Chandigarh, November 11 The police said Rajinder, a resident of Patiala, in his complaint stated that during his son’s wedding function at a hotel in Industrial Area a girl stole a bag containing cash and gold. The police officials said the video recording and photographs clicked during the function are being scrutinised. The police officials said a gang of juveniles are suspected to be behind such incidents and a close watch is kept on such juveniles roaming around the wedding venues in the city parts. Panchkula: Making it the third incident, thieves continue to target weddings. A theft was reported from Sector 16 Agarwal Bhawan, where a wedding function was on late last night. Someone managed to elope with a bag containing ‘shagun’ envelopes, jewellery and other expensive items worth Rs 3 lakh. According to the eyewitness, two juveniles were spotted during the time of the theft. They took help of an auto-driver to flee from the spot. Complainant Arun Kapoor told the police that the incident occurred around 1.30 am. “We were there for our son’s marriage and the bag was with my wife. After the initial rituals, my wife went for a short nap and in the meanwhile those juveniles, aged between 12 to 14 years, might have stolen the bag from the room. Soon after the incident we tried to follow the culprits but failed to catch them. The two boys were spotted by a neighbour, who mentioned that they had taken an auto to flee,” said Arun. Adding further, “I have noticed some unknown faces during the function but I thought they must be from the bridegroom’s family. A boy, wearing red shoes, blue trousers continuously following me and my wife,” said Arun. The police is investigating the matter. This is reportedly the third incident in the gap of 15 days. |

Raghav beats Gurpuneet

After electing to bat first, the losing side bundled out on a mere total of 37 runs with Prem scoring an unbeaten 12 off 12. For the bowling side, Chirag claimed 2 for 1. In reply, the wining side chased down the target with Arun Luthara scoring a quick fire of 16 off 6 while Chirag contributing 13 off 4. In their second match, the Live Coaching Centre overcame Kendriya Vidyala, Sector 31. Batting first, the wining side scored 116 runs.
