6 of car snatchers’ gang arrested: With the arrest of six persons, the police claims to have busted a gang of vehicle snatchers active on the Jalandhar-Chandigarh highway. Among those arrested are kingpin Jaspreet Singh alias Jassa of Jandiala village near Phagwara, Dalip Shori of Wadala village, Amarjit Kumar of Jandiala village, Manpreet Singh of Sidhwan Taal village near Nurmahal, Karan Pal Singh of Talwan village and Manpreet Singh of Bassesarpur village. A .12 bore pistol and two stolen cars have also been recovered.

Pensioners stage dharna in Sangrur
: A large number of government pensioners from various parts of the district on Friday staged a dharna and held a rally at the district administrative complex here in support of their demands. Led by association district president Inderpal Sharma, the protesters raised slogans against the state government and submitted a memorandum of demands to the Deputy Commissioner. Among their main demands are immediate release of pending arrears and special allowance for differently abled pensioners.

63 gram rozgar sevaks reappointed: The zila parishad authorities have issued reappointment letters to 63 gram rozgar sevaks under the Mahatama Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme. These were among those 111 GRSs who were relieved from service on September 30. Zila parishad deputy chief executive officer Gurmeet Singh said they had demanded Rs 6 crore from the government to meet expenses for development works and also pay salariesto the staff.

UK degree for Fortis doctor: Dr Arvind Sahni, director, gastroenterology at Fortis Hospital, Mohali, has been awarded an FRCPE (UK) degree at Edinburgh, United Kingdom. The degree was conferred on October 26.
Dr Sahni also delivered a guest lecture on Hepatitis-E in Asia in a hospital in London and visited Kings College Hospital, London, to study the latest in the field of liver transplantation and stem cell therapy.

HR panel functional: The Haryana Human Rights Commission has started functioning from Chandigarh as well as New Delhi. Justice Vijender Jain is the Chairman of the commission while Justice HSBhalla and JS Ahlawat are its members. In Delhi, the commission is functioning from Room No. 2, 3 and 4 at Haryana Bhawan, near Mandi House.
