Migratory round of polio campaign launched
Fatehgarh Sahib, November 4 He said the campaign was especially for children in the age group of 0 to 5 years belonging to migratory labourers. The Civil Surgeon said during the three-day campaign, as many as 18,561 children living in the slum areas would be administered polio drops. The Health Department had constituted 139 teams, including 17 mobile and transit teams. He said the teams would visit all brick-kilns, labour colonies, factories, huts, slum areas and all those places where migratory labourers live. He added that 21 supervisors had been deputed to supervise the campaign so that every child belonging to this class gets polio drops. |

Experts dwell on business ethics
Fatehgarh Sahib, November 4 These views were expressed by experts and business professionals during the national conference on “Emerging Paradigms in Business Ethics” held at Mata Gujri College. While expressing concern over the dismal picture of business ethics in the country, chief guest Dr Daljit Singh Cheema, MLA, Roopnagar, stressed the need for creating awareness among students in this regard. Dr Gurmohan Singh Walia, acting Vice-Chancellor, Sri Guru Granth Sahib World University, said income earned by any person or organisation should be ethical. He said one should limit materialistic desires and be contended with items that were unquestionably necessary for subsistence. Earlier in his welcome address, Dr Jatinder Singh Sidhu, director-principal of the college, said business people should follow business ethics, besides maintaining balance between business principals and cultural value system. He said any organisation or business house, which failed to maintain its cultural identity, would lose its individuality. Scholars from Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Jammu & Kashmir, Punjab and Chandigarh presented their papers on various sub- themes of the conference. — OC |
Court withholds salary of SHO
Panchkula, November 4 The SHO was summoned to produce the witnesses in the court in the Sector 12 murder case. It was on August 21 when 65-year-old Shanti Devi was murdered and three others were injured by a domestic help. It is not for the first time that an SHO has unheeded the orders of the court. A letter has been sent to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) by the court stating that the SHO did not comply with the repeated summons sent to her following which her salary was withheld. Bishnoi sent an application to the court stating that the summons could not be complied with as Navratra fest kept her preoccupied. On October 13, the court had withheld the salary of the then SHO of the Sector 5 police station, Inspector Om Prakash, with effect from September 1 as he did not appear as a witness in a case pertaining to Sector 10 dacoity. Om Prakash is currently posted at Gurgaon. |

Four rounded up for theft at wedding venue
Chandigarh, November 4 Though the suspects were rounded up by the police for verification, the attendants did not lodge any police complaint against them. The incident occurred at 11 am when two minor girls were nabbed red-handed with two bags containing clothes and other valuables outside the gurdwara. Gurinder Bir Singh, who resides in the gurdwara, reported to the police that the girls were nabbed outside the gurdwara. They were accompanied by two women. Four persons were rounded up and taken to the Sector 19 police station. However, they were let off in the absence of any recovery and a formal complaint. The city has witnessed over 14 such incidents of theft during marriages and functions in the past one fortnight. The police has failed to make a headway so far. in mishap
A 22-year-old motorcyclist was killed after being hit by a truck in colony number 4 this evening. The mishap occurred at 6.30 pm when a truck that was being driven by Chaman Lal hit the motorcycle of Ganga Ram. The mishap occurred near the police colony booth. Ganga Ram lost control over the two-wheeler and fell on the road. His head was crushed in the mishap. The injured was rushed to Government Medical College and Hospital in Sector 32 where doctors declared him brought dead. The injured was a colony number 4 resident and was coming from Ram Darbar. The police said he worked in a factory. A case of causing death due to negligence has been registered against the driver of the truck. |

Mohali, November 4 In his complaint, the victim's father, Mohan Lal, a resident of Champaran, Bihar, alleged that Rinku had been raping her daughter for the past four months. The victim went missing on October 1 and she returned home yesterday. |

Four arrested for damaging PCR vehicle
Chandigarh, November 4 Four youths, identified as Sanjay, Shri Kant, Rohit and Govinda, have been arrested. All four were in inebriated state when they pelted stones at the police vehicle and damaged its windowpanes. The accused said when the police vehicle came near them they thought that police wanted to arrest them and thus they started pelting stones at the vehicle. The front windowpane of the gypsy was completely damaged. However, policemen seated inside the car managed to save themselves. The police said three accused Sanjay, Shri Kant and Rohit were arrested hours after the incident and were sent to judicial custody. The fourth accused, Govinda, was arrested in afternoon. A case under Sections 353, 427 and 34 of the IPC has been registered in the Sector 31 police station. |

Youth creates ruckus at P’kula general hospital
Panchkula, November 4 The two policemen from PCR No 7 brought the youth from Rajiv Colony. When they reached the hospital, the youth created a ruckus saying that even the policemen were drunk and they too should be examined. Before the police could reach the spot, the two policemen fled from the scene. “The youth is a criminal. In order to defend himself, he created ruckus saying that the policemen were also drunk,” said Inspector Ajay Singh Rana, SHO of the sector 5 police station. –– TNS |

Vijender leads marathon
Chandigarh, November 4 The crowd came back to the lake after walking through Rock Garden, Sector 10, and Sector 8-9. Vijender Singh said walking was important for fitness. Everyone must take out time to walk during the day. The initiative aimed at inspiring people for having serious concerns about their health issues. It also emphasised that if schools and different boards of education include sports as part of their curriculum, then parents as well as children would devote more time to sports.
