Sarabhdyal sent to judicial custody
: A local court today sent Sarabhdyal, the main accused in the multi-crore development funds scam and personal assistant of former Punjab Cabinet Minister Gulzar Singh Ranike, to 14-day judicial custody. Sarabhdyal was in police custody since his arrest from Nainital on October 20. Though the Vigilance Bureau had sought more police remand, the duty magistrate sent him to judicial custody saying that he had remained in police custody for a considerable period. Vigilance authorities said they had sought an extension in Sarabhdyal's police remand by a day for further investigation. But, the duty magistrate ruled otherwise.

One killed, 19 hurt in road mishaps:
One person was killed while 19 sustained injuries, a few of them critically, in two separate road accidents that occurred in the past 24 hours at Badbar village near Dhanaula. Police said the first accident occurred last evening when a car rammed into a tractor-trailer near Grain Market at Badbar village. Four persons were injured in the accident and they were shifted to the Civil Hospital, Sangrur. One of the injured, Hardip Singh, succumbed to his injuries. In the second accident, a vehicle rammed into a stationary truck. All the 16 occupants sustained injuries. They were returning from Bathinda to Patiala.

Ferozepur
2,323 turn up for medical camp:
A large number of people were diagnosed during a mega cancer check-up and awareness camp organised by the Punjab Police in association with Roko Cancer Trust here on Monday. As many as 2,323 patients from Ferozepur, Moga, Muktsar and Fazilka districts were registered during the camp, of whom 97 patients are suspected to be suffering from cancer. These patients would have to undergo further tests, said Dr Dharminder Singh of Roko Cancer Trust.

Amritsar: Retired IPS officer Sukhdev Singh Chinna was elected president of the local Service Club in historical Ram Bagh for the third consecutive term today. Elected unopposed, Chinna said “We are even open to maintenance of Ram Bagh. We had earlier sent a proposal to the MC in this regard which was declined.” — TNS @@

3 booked for land fraud:
On a complaint lodged by Amar Singh of Gobind Majra village, the police has registered a case under Section 420 of the IPC against three persons Mulakh Raj, his wife Amro Devi and Numberdar Kashmir Chand for allegedly getting transferred 4-kanal land in the name of Amro Devi on June 18, 2010, by preparing fake documents while the land owner, Amar Singh's brother, Des Raj, had already died 40 years ago.

2 drunkards held: During a campaign launched by the district police administration against drunkards, two persons were arrested in the district for consuming liquor and creating nuisance at public places and seized 42 bottles of country-made liquor and 35 bottles of bear from their possession on Sunday night.

Freedom fighter dead:
Goverdhan of the Azad Hind Fauj died in his native Tharvi village in Fatehabad on Monday. His last rites were performed with full state honour in his village. Born on February 7, 1921, Govardhan joined the Azad Hind Fauj at the young age of 20. He used to throw patriotic message from an aircraft in various parts of the country. Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda expressed grief over Govardhan's death.

1 killed, 9 hurt as jeep hits tree: Mange Ram of Goga Meri in Rajasthan was killed and nine were injured when a jeep hit a tree near Kutiana village in Sirsa on Monday.The victims were returning home after participating in a wedding in Nathusari Chopta. The jeep hit a tree after its driver, Surinder, lost control over the vehicle. The injured persons have been shifted to the General Hospital in Sirsa.
