Sikh religious material seized: Activists of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Committee on Sunday seized four gunny bags containing Sikh religious literature. They claimed that the books were being transported in a disrespectful manner. They later handed over the seized material to the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, which took it to the Golden Temple. The SGPC would hand over the books to Akal Takht Jathedar Giani Gurbachan Singh on Monday.

Proclaimed offender woman among 2 held: A proclaimed offender-woman was among two persons arrested in separate cases by the police. Parmjit Kaur, a resident of Ramdas Nagar in Sirhind, who was declared a proclaimed offender by the court in a check bounce case, was arrested following a tip-off. She was produced in the court, which remanded her in 14-day judicial custody. In another case, the police arrested Raj Kumar, a resident of Pasiya Gorva village in Saharanpur district of Uttar Pradesh, after recovering a huge consignment of habit-forming drugs from him.

Man commits suicide:A 25-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself at his house in Daba
today. The deceased has been identified as Dharminder Singh. He was alone at his home when the incident took place. It came to light this afternoon. Soon the police reached the spot and sent the body to the civil hospital for
postmortem. Dharminder, who worked in a factory, was reportedly in depression after his wife deserted him.

Rape case against four brothers: Four brothers of Chhapri Sahib village have been booked for allegedly raping a married woman of the same village. A case has been registered against Karaj Singh, Kuljit Singh, Rana and Kala at Goindwal Sahib police station. In another case, an unknown person abducted a teenaged girl of Chabal town. The victim was a Class IX student. A case has been registered. Eight booked for detaining power staff: Police has booked eight Kisan Sangarash Committee leaders for allegedly detaining power officials who had gone to disconnect an illegal connection. Paramjit Singh, owner of a wheat mill in Booh Hevelian village, 35 km from here, where the illegal connection was to be cut, has also been booked. Powercom employees were on protest for the last four days and were demanding action against the accused. In his complaint, an Sub-Divisional Officer alleged that the accused detained him and his three team members for four hours.
