Cops nab gangster Kala Dhanaula Barnala, October 17 Barnala SSP Snehdeep Sharma said the police saw two youths coming from the Bhikhi side on a motorcycle and intercepted them. One of them tried to flee but the police caught him. During the investigation, they were identified as Gurmeet Singh alias Kala Dhanaula and Devinder Singh, a resident of Malerkotla, he added. During the search, the police recovered a .32 bore pistol and two live cartridges from Devinder Singh while a 9 mm pistol along with six cartridges, 11 mobile sets, three driving licences, voter's identity card and an ATM card were recovered from Kala Dhanaula, the SSP said. He said the Rurreke police had registered a case against them under Sections 420, 467, 468, 471 and 120-B of the IPC and Sections 25/54/59 of the Arms Act The SSP said Gurmeet Singh, alias Kala Dhanaula, along with his accomplices had opened fire on October 15 at the police party at a naka near Bhaini Jassa village. However, the police chased them up to Patran where Kala Dhanaula again fired at the police and managed to flee, he added. The SSP said Kala Dhanaula was a notorious criminal against whom 40 criminal cases were registered in different districts of the state.

Docs remove 1.5 kg of hair from woman’s belly Muktsar, October 17 "The woman had come to the hospital for tubectomy and during the investigations, a lump was found in her stomach, which was actually a bunch of hair," said Dr Surinder Arora, who performed the surgery. The team of doctors who performed the surgery included Surinder Arora, Dapindr Kumar, Manjeet Kaur, Hardeep Singh and Darshan Singh. An elated Dr Charanjeet Singh Brar, CMO, Muktsar, said, "This is a big achievement of our hospital." |

Maiser Khana readies for annual fair Maiser Khana (Bathinda), October 17 Preparations are in full swing for the daylong fair in which people not only from various parts of Punjab but also from the neighbouringing Haryana and Rajasthan would come. JCB machines and tractors have been deployed to clean the lanes of the village leading to the ancient temple. The sarpanch of the village, Sukhdev Singh, said 30 water taps have been installed and the temple pond has been cleaned. Medical teams would be deployed during the fair. The annual fair exhibits brotherhood among various communities that gather here on the occasion. Sikhs, Hindus and people belonging to other communities participate in the fair with enthusiasm. The temple has idols of goddess Durga and the holy symbols of Jawalaji. |

Women cops to nail eve-teasers Bathinda, October 17 Brar told TNS today that changing the law and order environment of the town for the good of the residents was on the top of his mind and effective steps were being taken to identify and book eve-teasers, chain snatchers, traffic law violators and other miscreants. Seven groups of policemen have been set up to keep a watch on illegal activities in the town and take action. Alongside, it will be his effort to restore the confidence of the people in policing and also raise the morale of the cops. Brar said his endeavour was to ensure transparency in the functioning of the police and their quick response to any crime. Policemen have to be sensitised towards the pain of the common man. The SHOs have been ordered to register FIRs without any delay and act against the culprits, he said. Incidents of chain snatching even in broad daylight were a matter of concern and the police has been ordered to check triple motorcycle riders and other violators of the motor vehicle laws. |
