Sangrur
Woman killed in road mishap
: A 24-year-old pregnant woman, Harwinder Kaur, died while her husband Sukhchain Singh sustained serious injuries during a collission between the motorcycle they were riding on and a car. The couple was on its way from Toor Banjara village to Dirba. The police has registered a case under sections 304-A, 279 and 427 of the Indian Penal Code against car driver, Amit Kumar, who is absconding. 

Experts delve into tech advancements: A two-day international conference on ‘Advancements in Engineering and Technology’ concluded at Bhai Gurdas Institute of Engineering and Technology here on Saturday. Over 100 delegates, comprising eminent scientists, engineers and research scholars, participated in the conference. Dr Ming Chia Daniel Lai, professor of mechanical engineering at Wayne State University, USA, was the chief guest.

Youth ends life; villager booked
: A youth, Tejinder Singh, allegedly committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance at his native Karmuwala village under Khal Ghurd police station. Police also recovered a suicide note from the dedeased's pocket. Sub-Inspector Ravi Kumar claimed that the youth had blamed another villager, Gurmeet Singh, for his taking the extreme step. A case has been registered against Gurmeet following a complaint by the victim's father, Kulwant Singh. 

Bangladeshi national arrested: BSF personnel arrested a Bangladeshi national while he was roaming under suspicious circumstances near the India-Pakistan border here. The arrested man had been identified as Mohammed Wadar, a resident of Gokara village in Jasuri district. BSF officials said: “Aged around 25, the youth wanted to cross over to Pakistan. However, he was detained near Maboke post.”

Nine held
: During a campaign launched by the district police administration against drunkards, nine persons were arrested in the district for allegedly selling and consuming liquor at public places and seized 19 bottles, 4 halves and 29 quarters of country-made liquor from their possession on Saturday night.

Youth elopes with teenager
: A youth Mukesh Kumar of Nangal Chaudhary town of Mahendergarh district, who had been working as a labourer at Rampura village here for the past some time, allegedly eloped with a teenaged girl (16), a student of Class XI, from Rampura village on the night of October 10. When her parents’ long search for her remained futile, her father on Saturday filed a complaint following which the police has registered a case of abduction against the accused Mukesh.

Man killed: A man of Bhakli village was killed when his motorcycle collided with a tractor coming from the opposite direction at Palhawas village, 22 km from here, on Saturday evening.The accident took place when Raj Kumar Yadav (46) was returning to his village whereas the tractor was coming from the opposite side. The tractor driver absconded after the accident. 

Rs 29,000 looted: Three motorcycle-borne miscreants allegedly looted Rs 29,700 at gunpoint from a branch of the Gurgaon Gramin Bank at Nangal Shahbazpur village on Saturday. They opened fire at a wall of the bank and fled with the booty. The Bawal police has registered a case. 

Gold, cash stolen: Prashant Kumar, a resident of West Bengal, fled with gold worth Rs 5 lakh and Rs 5,000 from a gold smith Vikas Mandal’s shop in Barahazari Market here on Thursday when Vikas was away to Jaipur. While placing his trust in his old employee Prashant, Vikas entrusted the shop to him when he went to Jaipur. When Vikas returned here, he was stunned to find that Prashant had fled with gold and the cash. A case has been registered.
