Supreme Court cancels registry of 106 acres

Chandigarh, October 14
The Supreme Court has cancelled the registry of 106 acres of land of Golden Forests at Jharmeri and Jarat villages in Lalru (Mohali) that was sold to Libra Build Tech by the Committee-Golden Forest (India) Limited. The committee, constituted by the Supreme Court, was formed to settle the claims of the investor, is headed by a retired judge, RN Aggarwal.

Liquor baron, Ponty Chadha, owns Libra Build Tech had bough the land for Rs 102 crore. The Supreme Court cancelled the registry after it was found that that the land was in dispute after being declared surplus by the Punjab Government.

The representative of the Gold Forests, Nikhil Kant Syal, had challenged the registry on the plea that after the land was declared surplus, the committee could not auction it as it was disputed, pointed out Syal, while holding a press conference here.

While the Punjab Government had stated that any individual or company could not own land beyond 52 acres, Golden Forest had contended the government’s contention on the plea that the land was not owned by an individual or family but by shareholders of the company.

Giving facts, Syal said after eight years of working and selling around 800 acres of land, the committee has collected around Rs 560 crore but not a single penny has been returned to anyone. Total amount owed to investors is Rs 1,150 crores including interest. Total land holding of the company is 10,000 acres and the assets of the company are worth far more than the liability. — TNS
