Recruitment for bus service scrapped

Ludhiana City Bus Service Ltd has scrapped the recruitment of 160 drivers and conductors, who were to be hired on a contract basis for the city bus service project. It has now been decided that drivers and conductors will be outsourced through a contractor.

15 more diagnosed with dengue

As many as 15 patients at the DMc were tested positive for dengue and one for swine flu at SPS Apolo Hospital today, taking the total number of dengue patients in the state to 109 and those of swine flu to 10. However in Ludhiana district 49 have tested positive for dengue and five for swine flu.
I-T dept issues scrutiny notices to 400

More than 400 cases from the city have been selected for scrutiny for the financial year 2010-11 by the Income Tax department. Many have already received the notices while others are yet to receive. The cases for scrutiny have been selected through Computer Assister Scrutiny Selection (CASS) from Delhi.
New CBDT guidelines to blame for PAN card delay

Those who had applied for PAN card (Permanent Account Number) in August and have yet not received it need to check if they have fulfilled all the pre-requisites for getting a PAN card. The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has laid down new conditions, applicable from August 1, for PAN cards.
Won't allow door-to-door garbage collection by A2Z: Valmiki Samaj

The members of Valmiki Samaj Bachao Andolan have threatened that if the state government does not stop A2Z Waste Management Ludhiana Ltd from door-to-door collection of garbage from ward number 68 and 69, they will block prominent city intersections. A 15-day deadline has been given to the state government.
Traffic SHO challans his driver for jumping traffic lights

A traffic SHO, Beant Juneja, today challaned the driver of his official vehicle for a jumping traffic light.
The move has sent a strong message among the government employees including police officers and bureaucrats, whose drivers often violated the traffic rules.
25-yr-old commits suicide

A 25-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her house in Basti Jodhewal here today.
The victim, identified as Saroj, was suffering from tuberculosis. She committed suicide when she was alone at home.

Chhapar Mela continues to draw crowds

Ludhiana: A four-day Panjab University Zonal Youth and Heritage Festival Zone A, Ludhiana, organised at AS College Khanna concluded here. The last day of the festival included heritage and music items. The music items included women traditional and ritualistic songs, suhag, ghoris, long heik, dholak, ghara songs, sithnies, kavishri, kali, folk dances, folk instruments and folk orchestra.
