Man dies in road mishap

Dera Bassi, September 29
One person was killed in a road accident here on Saturday. The deceased has been identified as Pyare Lal (50), a resident of Sundran village.

The accident occurred when the victim was trying to cross Dera Bassi-Sundran road, near Mubarkpur. A tractor-trailer crushed him to death. The driver fled from the spot and the police has started investigation.

Two arrested for murder

Fatehgarh Sahib, Sept 29
The police has claimed to solve a murder case today with the arrest of two persons.

SSP HS Mann said on August 17 Mandi Gobindgarh police had recovered an unidentified body near a milk booth at Ajnali focal point. The deceased, Gulab Giri, worked as a labourer. The accused, Raju Giri and Dinesh Giri, told police that the victim had sold them a gold brick, which was not original. When they demanded the money back, Giri refused do so. A case has been registered under Section 302 of the IPC. ––OC

Over 8,000 cases disposed of in lok adalat

Chandigarh, September 29
In the special quarterly lok adalat, 8,573 cases were disposed of today.

In the lok adalat, 18 benches were constituted. With the settlement of traffic challans, the court collected Rs 19,80,255. Apart from traffic violations, the lok adalat settled 260 cheque-bounce cases. Officials said compensation of Rs.14, 85,166 was awarded in the MACT cases.

Besides, civil cases, rent cases, cases pertaining to pre-litigative stage of banks, financial institutions and other categories were also disposed of. District and Sessions Judge SK Goel appealed to the public to resolve their disputes through lok adalats as it provided quick and economical justice. "It also saves time and money of litigants.

5 held for fishing at Sukhna

Chandigarh, September 29
The Chandigarh Police has arrested five persons for fishing illegally at the Sukhna Lake in the wee hours here today.

The police said around 40 fishes and a fishing net were recovered from the five persons.

PCR Special Technical Operation Team got secret information on illegal activity being carried out at the Lake during late night.

At 3 am the PCR Special Technical Operation Team, led by SI Ghansham, laid a trap at the Lake, toward jungle side. The team caught five persons, along with 20 kgs of fish and a fishing net.

The accused have been identified as Hari Ram, Ram Bilas, Badlu Ram, Sanjay and Mukesh. They all belong to Kaimbala village in Chandigarh.

A case under Sections 379 and 411 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered in police station north.

2 booked for making advances to woman

The police has booked two persons for making advances to women. One of the accused has been arrested. A resident of Chandigarh alleged that Amit Kumar, a resident of Sector 24, tried to outrage her modesty. The complainant stated that Kumar even threatened her of dire consequences

A case has been registered. In an another incident, a women alleged that the driver of a three-wheeler tried to make advances to her.
