Notice to Estate Officer,
Deputy Commissioner
Chandigarh, September 28 Taking up the matter, the High Court today ordered that status quo should be maintained over the property. In his petition, advocate Bhupendra Chaturvedi alleged that the plot was licensed only for a wool unit. "In the present case, the government allotted around one million square feet of subsidised (practically free) land in the heart of Chandigarh for setting up a "wool processing unit" at Industrial Area, Phase I, 181, Chandigarh, to Modella Woollens Limited of Modella Group. "The said plot can only be used for the wool processing unit. It was specifically stated that the said subsidised land will not be used for any other industrial or commercial purpose. The said plot cannot be transferred (by sale, by lease or by licence). "No sub-division or fragmentation of land of the said plot was permissible. Due to gross negligence and willful collusion of government officers, none of these conditions are being satisfied causing a loss of around Rs 5,000 crore to the government exchequer," read the petition. |

HC asks Admn to explain method of inspection
Chandigarh, September 28 The court also admonished the states of Punjab and Haryana for being "non-serious towards the welfare of children". The Bench said the Chandigarh Administration had initiated some safety measures and started special school buses, but the two states had hardly taken any steps in this direction. The petitioner-cum-lawyer has now been asked to inspect in the morning the special school buses launched by UT Administration for transporting schoolchildren. As the case came up, the Administration submitted that "at present, approximately 26,000 students of schools, colleges and university are availing bus pass facilities and travelling in CTU buses. "After analysing the demand submitted by the DPI (Schools), wherein it has been mentioned that 6,000 more students intend to avail the bus facility, the CTU has introduced 20 additional buses in the morning and six additional buses in the afternoon exclusively for students." The CTU is providing local bus services with a frequency of 10 to 30 minutes in every sector for students as well as general public. The Administration also told the court that there was a "proposal to purchase 98 new buses against condemned buses during this year which would be introduced on school routes". Counsel for the UT Administration verbally told the Court that a camp, too, was held by the traffic police and was attended by a teacher from every school. |
