The official confirmation about poison being found in her stomach has once again put a question mark about whether it was a "well-executed murder" or a suicide case.

Mobile shop employee, girl hurt in acid attack

An employee of a mobile shop, Amit, received serious injuries while a girl standing close by was injured when unidentified assailants threw acid on the former at the busy Sector 22 mobile market this evening.

Innocent people continue to become victims of the 27 accident-prone areas in Panchkula. The authorities concerned seem to be shelving their responsibilities. Are Panchkula police, HUDA, NHAI or MC responsible for the lives of innocent people who become victims of the killer points?

For the families of those who became victims of the killer stretch or the 'irresponsible authorities', they say it is dark world for them as they have lost everything. Thanks to the Panchkula police and other authorities that the families are living a sad, desolate black life with tears in their eyes most of the time.

Out of the all the accident-prone areas, the Panchkula-Barwala road is known the 'most infamous killer stretch', which has claimed maximum number of lives and many persons injured. About 23 fatal and 25 non-fatal accidents have taken place from January 1, 2012 till date.

HUDA, MC pass the buck

It has been observed that whenever it comes to solving the problems of the township, the Haryana Urban Development Authority (HUDA) and the Municipal Corporation (MC) keep passing the buck. Both HUDA and the MC too were told about their responsibility to remove the 'accident prone' tag from and still nothing substantial has done.

Subways proposed for city

The master plan committee has proposed to make city’s markets and other busy points pedestrian friendly for city residents. In the master plan, they have proposed to make subways on many V-3 roads between the sectors in the city. Besides, the committee has also proposed to make busy markets of the city a no-vehicle zone.

The municipal corporation enforcement department removed encroachment from a green belt in the Bapu Dham colony, Sector 26, yesterday. Officials said the action was taken by the department after a complaint was received from the residents about encroachment in the green belt.

The PU syndicate rejected the request made by Gul Panag, a bollywood actress from Chandigarh, seeking permission to complete her studies. Gul Panag, who was a political science student in the correspondence department of Panjab University, had written to the university to allow her to complete her MA which she left in 2002.

MC to install garbage bins in Sector 48

Municipal Corporation has been recommending for installation of garbage bins in the residential society of Sector 48 for proper collection of garbage. This will also ensure that the garbage is taken to the processing plant, Dadu Majra.

2-tier system to replace AIEEE, IIT-JEE

The Panjab University Students Union's (PUSU) vice-presidential candidate who lost with a low margin of 45 votes has demanded recounting of votes. Interestingly, 677 votes were found invalid for the post, following which candidate Smriti Brar has demanded recounting.

PU Syndicate gives nod to appoint VC’s wife

Going ahead with the proposal of appointing the Vice-Chancellor’s wife in the music department at Panjab University, the Syndicate gave its nod to the proposal here today. Interestingly, the post was already advertised and applications were invited when the house decided to appoint Professor Neera Grover.

Gang of mobile phone thieves busted

The police has busted a gang of mobile phone thieves here today. It has seized seven mobile phones from their custody. The accused were identified as Rajiv Kumar and Vikram Singh, both residents of Dera Jagadhari village, and Kuldeep Singh, a resident of Mehandpur village.

Woman dies of snakebite

A woman died of snakebite in Jasthana Kalan village near Lalru last night. The deceased was identified as Seeta Rani, wife of Raju. She was living in a rental accommodation here.

Arrested Inspector’s sons have criminal background
Panchkula, September 8
Chandigarh police Inspector Tarsem Rana, who was arrested yesterday by the Panchkula police for helping a fake IPS officer, has two sons with criminal background. The elder son is a member of robbers’ gang while the younger one was held by police in a kidnapping and attempt to murder case.

23-yr-old killed in mishap
Chandigarh, September 8
A youth lost his life while another was serious injured when their motorcycle hit a truck at Transport Chowk, Sector 26, here today. The police said Amarinder Singh (23) died while Jaskaran Singh was seriously injured in the accident. He is admmitted to a hospital.

Two injured in accidents
Chandigarh, September 8
Two persons were injured in accidents in different parts of the city. A pedestrian was hit by a car near Kaimbala. Amrao Devi, a resident of Kaimbala village, alleged that the driver, identified as Somnath, hit her near Lala Wala Peer, Kaimbala village. The victim suffered from minor injuries.

For the fifth time in a row the baseball team of SGGS College, Sector 26, claimed the title of Inter-College Baseball Tournament, which was held at PU campus, here today. The teams of DAV College, Sector 10, and GGD SD College, Sector 32, secured the second and the third positions respectively.

Sunny Sohal and Harpreet Mandher of Mohali have notched up 336 run opening partnership against Chandigarh in the ongoing Katoch Shield Cricket Championship here today. Mohali has scored 352 for 5 in 87 overs in today's play. Openers Harpreet Mandher clobbered 188 while Sunny Sohal scored 144.

City team finishes runners-up

In the ongoing National School Games for Boys (U-17), the soccer team of the City Beautiful has finished as runners-up in the tournament. The tournament is being played at Srinagar. The local team went down against Tripura in a tie-breaker after forcing the opponent to a draw. The score during the regulation period was 2-2.
