Decision on CBI’s closure report today
Tribune News Service

Chandigarh, August 28
The court will pronounce its decision on the CBI’s closure report in the theme park case tomorrow when it will be decided whether the case should be closed or re-investigated. Heated arguments were witnessed in the court today.

The fate of former UT Adviser Lalit Sharma (now retired), former UT Home Secretary Krishna Mohan and former Director (Tourism) Vivek Atray, who were booked by the CBI, will be decided tomorrow.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a closure report in the case of corruption, abuse of power and criminal conspiracy registered against them in 2010 for their alleged involvement in multi-crore amusement-cum-theme park scam.

The complainant in the case had strongly objected to the closure report and stated that the case should not be closed as the CBI had procured evidence that it was a huge scam.

The complainant, Vivek Aditya, has also moved an application in the court seeking re-investigation in the case.

A clean chit has been given to all the officials as well as MD of the Unitech, a real estate company accused in the scam as per the CBI’s closure report.

The CBI had registered the case in 2010.

The CBI had booked two senior IAS officers, an HCS officer and a real estate company to whom the project was awarded by the Chandigarh Administration.

The FIR registered by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the multi-crore amusement-cum-theme park project scam stated that the Chandigarh Administration’s former top bureaucrats, in connivance with M/s Unitech Limited, indulged in criminal conspiracy and awarded 73.65 acres of land in Sarangpur village to Unitech Limited at Rs 5.5-crore fixed annual licence fee and 1.1 per cent annual revenue sharing. By doing so, the FIR stated that they caused “wrongful loss to the government and corresponding wrongful gain to Unitech Limited, Gurgaon.”

Former UT Adviser Lalit Sharma, former UT Home Secretary Krishna Mohan, former Director (Tourism) Vivek Atray and Ajay Chandra, MD of Unitech Limited, were named as accused in the FIR.
