Two armed motorcycle-borne assailants reportedly attacked a collection agent working with a local soap manufacturing company and robbed him of around Rs 3.5 lakh after injuring the victim with sharp-edged weapons near Gyaspura late this evening.
Dengue larvae found at three places

The district health department has alerted residents after detecting dengue larvae at three places in the city. The Chief Medical Officer, Dr Subhash Batta, said: "During a field survey recently, our team came across dengue larvae at a house in Haibowal and tyre shops at Transport Nagar and the bus stand area.

GLADA resumes 16 sites; notice issued to 107 allottees

GLADA has initiated action against defaulters who failed to pay the balance amount of consideration money of commercial and residential sites sold through an auction. After being rapped by the audit department for failure to recover default amount, which had crossed a whopping Rs 50 crore by March-end, GLADA has resumed 15 commercial sites and a residential plot.

Confusion over online filing continues

The excise and taxation department's recent notification on online filing of intra-state trade is still hanging fire. While the chief parliamentary secretary promised the industry that the notification would be rolled back, the department seems to be in no mood to revoke the same. The industry plans to go on indefinite hunger strike against the notification from August 9.
Mattewara soon to be tourist destination

The state government intends to develop Mattewara, 20 km from here, as a major tourist spot. The government is planning to acquire land from eight villages adjoining the Sutlej river. To make it a tourist destination, the government plans to come up with a race course (for dogs and horses), a five-star hotel, colleges and a jungle retreat (for walks in woods).

IT dept planning to do away with income tax verification

The income tax department may do away with the income tax verification (ITR-V) from the next financial year. If one is filing the returns online, he/she will not be required to mail the income tax verification (ITR-V) from next year. If the proposal works out than individual taxpayers, who do not have a digital signature will not be required to sign the ITR-V to complete the process of e-filing returns.
