The PGI seems to have committed a faux pas again. A day after the PGI gave its reasons leading to the amputation of Anupama’s left leg followed by her death, it has been discovered that two of the four doctors entrusted with an inquiry are not in the city.

Robbers were polite to us, say victims

“Aunty please come out, give us the keys and let us go. We are in a hurry,” were the polite words of robbers who snatched a car from a couple at gunpoint near the road separating Sectors 26 and 27 in Panchkula last night.
“They did not push us. They came in front of our car all of a sudden and forcibly stopped us, but no one spoke to my husband. They just spoke to me and after pointing pistols towards us, they said ‘aunty please come out.

Renovate public toilets: Sulabh

The Sulabh International Social Service Organisation has asked the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority (GMADA) to renovate public toilets in the town before handing these over to the organisation for operation and maintenance.
‘Smallest’ baby survives

A premature baby, who weighed only 450 gm at birth, was discharged from a Mohali hospital today. The baby weighed 1.4 kg today. With this the baby has become “India’s smallest baby to survive”ť such a medical condition, claimed doctors.

Apna Ghar case
CBI to question nine accused

The CBI special magistrate today allowed the agency to investigate from nine accused in the Ambala jail in the Apna Ghar case. Till now, the CBI had investigated the case only from investigating official Bhim Singh Ranga and was unsuccessful in investigating from other accused.

Boy rescued from ditch

No 'backdoor entry' this time

No “backdoor entry” is expected this time in the recruitment of junior basic teachers
(JBT) and trained graduate teachers (TGT) in Chandigarh. The Chandigarh Administration has claimed that the guidelines and rules prescribed by the National Council for Teacher's Education
(NCTE) will be strictly followed for the fresh recruitments on contractual basis under the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan society.

College teachers will be invited for research at PU, says new VC

Panjab University is soon going to invite college teachers to pursue research on the university campus. The university is working out the modalities as per which the teachers who do not get a sabbatical leave from their college management will be asked to take a leave for an year, and the university would be paying salary to those teachers for the duration they pursue research at PU. The plans were disclosed by new Vice-Chancellor Arun Grover in an all-faculty meeting today.
PU-affiliated colleges to offer MPhil

From the next academic session students will be able to pursue MPhil in colleges affiliated to Panjab University. Students will also have the benefit of doing a six-month research work for PhD in the college, instead of the university as is required at present. Colleges need the status of a research centre for offering these facilities. The university in a meeting held today finalised the modalities and requirements the colleges need to fulfil to get the status of a research centre.

Sports trials again tomorrow

Trials for applicants to reserved seats under the sports category in various courses at Panjab University will be held again on July 28. The PU authorities took this decision after members of Panjab University Students' Union staged a protest outside the Vice-Chancellor office today.

Ensure safety in school buses: STA

In wake of the death of 17-year-old Anupama due to carelessness of a CTU bus driver, the State Transport Authority organised a training programme for the operators of private school buses today. Drivers and operators were made aware about various guidelines relating to safety of children.
