5 arrested in Rs 6-cr fraud case
Ludhiana, June 19
The Division No. 2 police today arrested five persons in connection with the Rs 6-crore fraud case and recovered 49 lakh from the accused persons.
The accused have identified as Amit Kumar, alias Tony, Ranjit Singh,
Balwinderpal, Harish Kumar and Ranjit Singh.

Probe into prisoners’ visit to paramours

The Central Jail superintendent here has ordered a probe following an allegation that two inmates, who fell ill and were taken to Civil Hospital, spent hours with their paramours in a jail hostel here yesterday.
Accused identified, yet to be arrested

The assailant, who fired shots at Jagdeep Singh Chahal in the Model Town area
here last evening, has been identified as Sukhpreet Singh of Barrewal. The
accused have been booked under Section 307 of the IPC for attempt to murder.

MC yet to repair caved-in road

The municipal corporation seems to be moving at a snail’s pace when it comes to repairing of the road near the Clock Tower that caved in April. The municipal corporation has not repaired this road even after two months.

Officials misleading us, say commuters
Ludhiana, June 19
Those travelling in a bus on the Bus Stand-Clock Tower-Jalandhar bypass route have charged officials of City Bus Service Limited with misleading them. Due to the ongoing repair of the road near the Clock Tower, the old GT Road has been closed to the vehicular traffic.

Ludhiana swimmers stamp their supremacy

Though hosts Sangrur stamped their supremacy over others and accumulated 112 points to emerge overall champions, Ludhiana swimmers, too, made their presence felt by winning 13 medals, including five gold, in the 27th Punjab State Swimming Championship for the sub-junior boys and girls conducted at the War Hero’s Swimming Pool,

Ban on registries in Doraha lifted

The Punjab government lifted the ban on registry of properties in Doraha block of Payal Assembly constituency which was in force for the past six years.

The special chance to appear in the Punjab school education examinations for students seem to be a "special" opportunity for PSEB to generate more funds as the board authorities charge huge amount as examination fee from the students who take this special chance. Teachers, parents and people from the education department are already opposing the policies of PSEB for increasing the examination fee.
Applications invited afresh for resource persons

After reverting them to their parent schools, the District Resource Persons (DRPs), Block Resource Persons (BRPs) and Subject Master Trainers, who were deputed without following any criteria, the Education department has now invited applications for these posts according to the guidelines of the Ministry of Human Resource Development under the Sarva Shikhsha Abhiaan (SSA).

Youth injured in clash over land dispute

A youth of Leelan Megh Singh village situated on the Jagraon- Sidhwan Bet road had a miraculous escape when a few of his relatives allegedly opened fire at him.
The youth, however, managed to escape from the spot, but was chased by armed assailants and thrashed.
15-yr-old girl found dead

A 15-year old migrant girl
was found dead under mysterious circumstances in the Shaheed Bhagat
Singh Nagar on Pakhowal road here this evening. The girl, idendified
as Bittu, was working as a domestic help at the house of one Ankur Garg.
Asian Beach Games
Indian eves corner glory

Indian women emerged champions in basketball during the 3rd Asian Beach Games organised at Haiyang in China, recently. In the final, Indian eves got the better of China whom they outplayed 17-14 to lift the gold medal.
