Amritsar
Five held for gambling
: Five persons were arrested by the CIA staff on the charges of gambling here today. Those arrested are identified as Narinder Kumar, Sudesh Kumar, Rajiv Kumar (residents of Katra Khazana), Parveen Kumar of Drumma Wala Bazaar, Sultanwind road, and Parmod Kumar of Gurbax Nagar. The police recovered Rs 41,000 from their possession when they were gambling in the Galliara park.

988 cleared for employment
: Total 988 youth were cleared for appointment on various jobs by 35 companies of Chandigarh, Baddi, Badotiwala, Una, Sirmaur and Chennai at a Rozgaar Mela organised by the HP Government Labour and Employment Department (Shimla) at Ghumarwin, near here, on Friday. Mela Organisers Employment Officer (Central wing, Shimla) Krishan Kumar and Rozgaar Bazaar Information Officer (Shimla) GD Kalta said a total of 2,447 unemployed youth were registered for jobs.

‘Nag chhatri’ herbs seized
: The police seized 3 quintals of valuable medicinal herbs called “nag chhatri” in local dialect packed in 10 bags in Salooni area of Chamba on Friday. Three persons, Hem Raj, Man Singh and Mohammed Ramzan, all of Salooni region, have been arrested and cases under various sections registered at the Kihar police station.This was stated by district police chief Kuldeep Sharma said here on Friday.

Banikhet eco park
: NHPC Banikhet Region Executive Director (ED) Sharat Chander Sharma on Wednesday inaugurated a newly developed eco-park at Banikhet and later handed it over to Banikhet gram panchayat pradhan Arun Rana for its further care. The ED said Banikhet township was a gateway to Dalhousie, which was 5 km away. The eco-park was spread over 4,000 sq m. Banikhet gram panchayat pradhan Arun Rana thanked the NHPC for beautifying the area.

CCTV cameras for bus stand
: The Hamirpur police has decided to install CCTV cameras at the local bus stand to regulate the traffic and ensure the strict implementation of the timetable by bus operators. Giving this information recently, SP, Hamirpur, Madhusudan, said all bus operators had been told to bring buses to the bus stand 15 minutes prior to departure and private bus operators to complete the journey from the bus stand to Pucca Bharro, Annu and Dosarka within 15 minutes. 

Development plan: Education Minister ID Dhiman has said the state government has launched an integrated cooperative development plan through which cooperative institutions are being given incentives.

: The HP State Council for Science, Technology and Environment celebrated Biodiversity Day here on Tuesday. The theme of day was "Marine Biodiversity". Vibhuti of Anglo Sanskrit Model School got the first prize in painting, Richa Kant of Arunodaya Senior Secondary School the second and Lovanya of Girls School the third.

Rehan DAV gets 100 pc results
: The DAV Public School, Rehan, has scored 100 per cent pass results of Class X declared by the CBSE. ML Sekhri, Chairman of the school, said Arun Pathania and Manvi Sharma got the top-most grading and four other students secured grading above 9.2 CGPA. 

Khair logs seized: The field staff of the Forest Department, led by Ram Saroop, Deputy Ranger, Bhogrwan range, Nurpur forest division, caught a jeep loaded with khair logs at Sajwan during night patrolling. Rajinder Jaswal, DSP, said on seeing the forest staff culprits fled from the spot leaving the jeep behind. A case was registered on Wednesday and the jeep was impounded. Divisional Forest Officer, Nurpur, JC Thakur, said the department had initiated investigations.
