5 storied textile factory gutted
1 dead, 6 injured; it took 18 hours and 40 fire tenders to douse flames

One person died and six others were injured when a fire broke out in a five-storied textile industry-Advaith International-in Sunder Nagar.

70-yr-woman set afire
Ludhiana, May 26
Nachattar Kaur (70), a resident of Nurpur Bet, was allegedly pushed into fire by none other than her own brother Nachattar Singh over a piece of land. The victim was immediately rushed to the local Civil Hospital where her condition is stated to be stable. She sustained burn injuries in arms and legs.
Man burnt to death
Phillaur, May 26
Buta Singh (25), a drug addict, reportedly murdered his father Kewal Singh with sharp-edged weapon at Bilga village in this subdivision last night. Later on, he set his father’s body afire.
NRI dies of heart attack
Jagraon, May 26
An NRI, who had arrived from Canada some time ago, died while resolving a property dispute with his former wife and her relatives at Lakha village near here. The deceased has been identified as Maingal Singh (48) of Lakha village who had moved to Canada years ago.

Yet another killed, wife among two booked

Only two days after the local police solved the mystery behind the blind murder of a man hailing from Gahaur village with the arrest of his wife along with two youths, another murder has taken place at Hathur, a small town situated near Jagraon, due to alleged illicit relationship. A man was found dead in his house today morning.

The traffic policemen would no longer hide behind and trees and jump before the speeding vehicles to nab traffic violators. The newly appointed ACP Traffic, Naveen Singla, has passed clear instructions among the traffic policemen to avoid jumping before the speeding vehicles and instead make use of walky-talky to nab the escaping traffic offenders.

On the second day of filing nomination papers for June 10 municipal corporation elections, a total of 48 candidates, including senior BJP leader Gurdeep Singh Neetu, filed their papers today.

Youth feared drowned in canal
Jagraon, May 26
Only a few hours after a youth, Mandeep Singh of Hans Kalan village near Jagraon, ended his life by jumping into the Sirhind Feeder Canal near Akhara village on the Jagraon-Raikot road yesterday morning, another youth in his twenties jumped into the Sirhind Feeder Canal near Gurusar Sudhar last evening.

Future of 300 players hangs in the balance

The future of nearly 300 Taekwondo players hangs in the balance following a tug of war between the Taekwondo association and officials ousted from it. In the latest incident, authorities of Arya Senior Secondary School, Civil Lines, have declined to host the 3rd District Boys and Girls Open Taekwondo Championship scheduled for May 27 on the school premises.
