In the last six days, a fourth incident of suicide was reported from a Metro station in Delhi this morning. According to sources, a 22-year-old man allegedly committed suicide by jumping down on a road from a railing near the Violet Line platform at the Govindpuri Metro station.

The deceased is identified as Anil Kumar who is a resident of Jhuggi Jhopri camp at Okhla.

According to the police, the incident occurred at 11.05 am today. No suicide note has been recovered.

He was rushed to the AIIMS Trauma Centre where doctors declared him brought dead. A case under section 174 of the Criminal Procedure Code has been registered at the Kalkaji Mandir (Metro) police station.

The police said that they would examine the CCTV footage of the platform to learn about the sequence of events.

Anuj Dayal, chief public relations officer of the Delhi Metro, appealed to all the passengers to help check such incidents.

"DMRC is extremely concerned about the suicides taking place on the Metro premises and appeals to the general public to help prevent them by keeping a close watch on the behavioural pattern of the people around them," Dayal said.

He added, "Metro and security staff should be immediately alerted to thwart any suspected attempt."

On May 5, a 55-year-old government employee died after he allegedly jumped on the tracks at the INA Metro station in South Delhi.

Blaming English dept won’t help: Teachers

New Delhi, May 8
As the Delhi University administration blamed the department of English for the question paper goof-up at yesterday's semester exam, several teachers today maintained that this blame-game doesn't make amends for the confusion that nearly 15,000 students had when wrong question papers arrived at their desks.

Yesterday, BA (H) students who were to appear for the English Credit course on contemporary English got a question paper on "Individual and Society".

Non-Sanskrit (Hons) students also were supplied the wrong version of the question paper for their concurrent paper on nationalism and Indian literature.

The university later said that the English department had coded both the papers the same, which led to confusion and a wrong set, went into printing.

An enquiry will be conducted for looking into the lapses in the English paper, Vice Chancellor Dinesh Singh had said.

"Even if the wrong question paper had been printed, it would have been better to just cancel the examination. The chaos of last-minute handwritten papers being photocopied in colleges, compromising the credibility of the examinations wasn't necessary. Every photocopier, clerks and many teachers had the photocopies of the paper. While some colleges got the copies by 10.30 am, others couldn't begin the exam before 11.30 am. What if the paper would have been leaked," asked Abha Dev Habib, Delhi University Teachers; Association (DUTA) executive member.

"Even if the papers had the same codes, why didn't the exam branch clarify with the department? Secondly, I know it for a fact, that for the papers in question, the codes were 3259 for (indi soc) and 3259A (for LCC). The codes were "similar" not the same. It is clear who made the mistake," said a senior English faculty member, requesting anonymity.

Another English faculty member Vineeta Chandra added, "A blame-game has begun now which seemingly will not end anytime soon. This isn't the first time such an error has occurred in a semester paper. There was a goof-up recently where moderated marks of the students were uploaded on the website that sent everyone into a tizzy. Will there be any enquiry? This problem has come to the fore this time because the quantum of students affected was so huge."
