Girl murdered in Karnal:
Kavita (18), a rice mill worker, was found murdered in her house at the Karnali Gate here this afternoon.
The police has sent the body for a post-mortem examination. DSP Gurdayal Singh said it appeared to be a case of love affair. The police has taken three suspects into custody in this connection.

Villagers hold protest:
Villagers from the Khatima area, Udham Singh Nagar, are irked over the failure of the administration to supply them foodgrains under the public distribution system. In protest, the villagers staged a dharna outside the SDM office on Thursday. They complained that despite having ration cards, they were unable to get foodgrains under the PDS from the designated outlets. The villagers have threatened to launch an agitation if there problem was not solved at the earliest.

Drive against illegally distilled liquor:Carrying out a drive against illegally distilled liquor at various places in Rudrapur, officials of the Excise Department destroyed a large quantity of spirit used for the purpose on Thursday. Sources said 30 units where the liquor was being distilled were destroyed. Besides this, a large amount of illegally fermented liquor was also seized.

One nabbed in robbing case: The Kashipur police on Thursday arrested one of the three persons, Sharif, accused of robbing a petrol station employee on Wednesday. It has impounded the motorcycle used by the accused along with some amount of the money looted from victim Digvijay Singh. The three accused, identified as Sharif and Rajendra of Rampur and Vir Singh of Fasiyapura village, had robbed Digvijay Singh of Rs 1.60 while he was going home.

1 killed in accident: One person was killed while two others were injured when the pik-up vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge in Almora on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Lakshman Singh Chauhan of Khatyadi locality of Almora town. The injured, Deepak Singh Bisht and Manoj Chauhan, have been admitted to District Hospital.

11 hurt as vehicle falls into gorge: Eleven persons were injured, three of them seriously, when the vehicle they were travelling in fell into a gorge on the Barapathar-Pangot road in Nainital on late Thursday night. The victims had a narrow escape as despite falling from a great height, they managed to survive as the vehicle first landed on the tin roof of a building and then onto the false ceiling which absorbed the impact of the fall. The victims were returning from a marriage party in Almora district. They have been admitted to BD Pande Hospital.
