Workshop on engineering held: A two-day national workshop on “MATLAB and Its Applications in Engineering” concluded today. It was inaugurated by Dr NP Mehta, pro-vice-chancellor, MMU, Mullana. About 70 scholars from different universities like Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Thapar University, Sai University, Pathankot, Manav Rachna University, Faridabad and many other reputed engineering colleges participated. Dr AK Goyal, Director, MMU, highlighted the importance of MATLAB and its growing popularity among the scientists and engineers for teaching and research. The name MATLAB stands for Matrix laboratory. Job fair organised: Naukri Utsav (Job Fair) was organised here at Jai Polytechnic College, Adhoi (Ambala), in which over 700 students from various government and non-governmental Polytechnics participated. As many as 19 companies like Diamond Shoes, Action Group, Pioneer Embroideries, Case cold Roll Forming Ltd (Kalaamb), Shiva Motors (Delhi), Poly Plastics (Yamuna Nagar), Protocol Engineers Pvt Ltd (Noida), Osaw Industrial Products (Ambala), and Advanced Technologies (Baddi) participated. As many as 214 students were selected. the initial pay package varied from Rs 7500 per month to Rs 16000 per month. Bhaskar Mookharjee, Managing Director, Support IT, thanked Arun Kapil, principal, Jai Polytechnic for making excellent arrangements. Dr KL Johar, former vice-chancellor, GJU, Hisar and chairman of Jai Polytechnic said more job fairs would be organised in future to give boost to such placement drives.

Public meet cancelled:The Janta Milan programme at the residence of Uttarakhand Chief Minister Vijay Bahuguna on April 24 has been
cancelled. According to a state government press release, the Chief Minister will be at Rishikesh to flag off Char Dham yatra at 10.30 am on April 24 and will later visit the Shaheed Sthal located at Haridwar Road,
Rishikesh, to pay his tributes. Hence, the Janta Milan programme stand cancelled.

Accident victim identified:
A motorcyclist who was killed in an accident near the Nai Basti area of Haldua on the Kashipur-Ramnagar road on Saturday has been identified as 15-year-old Harish Saini, a resident of Lal Dhang. He was killed when his vehicle hit a tree. He was identified by his father Dalchandra Saini, who had been searching for his missing son.Bus driver held for thefts:
The Ramnagar police has arrested a bus driver for his alleged role in theft cases that had been reported in January. Shahid Ali, a resident of Moradabad, works on a contract with the Ramnagar depot of Uttarakhand Transport Corporation. He has been accused of committing thefts in a house and a degree college. The accused was nabbed from the Bhawaniganj area of the town.Patient’s attendants create ruckus:
Yet another instance of attendants of a patient resorting to violence has come to light in the Kashipur area of Udham Sigh Nagar. Members of one Dildar Hussain’s family and his kin resorted to violence when Hussain's wife Saadama died after delivering a baby in a private hospital. They accused the doctors of negligence and having taken out the victim's kidney. However, doctors claimed that she died of hemorrhage. The matter was resolved when the police intervened and a post-mortem examination of the victim was ordered on Sunday evening.Chital attacked by dogs:
A chital was attacked by stray dogs in Kashipur on Sunday afternoon. After getting information, personnel of the Forest Department reached the house of one Chhote Lal of Pashupati Vihar locality where it had taken refuge. After giving treatment to the chital at a local veterinary hospital, the officials released it in the forests of the Haldua area.Tractor-trailer overturns, 1 killed:
One person was killed when the tractor-trailer he was travelling in overturned near Sarvar Kheda village of Kashipur on Sunday afternoon. The victim has been identified as Kishore Kumar, a resident of Bihar. He had been residing in Rampura village and used to work as an electrician. Kishore was returning from Dhampur along with his friends when the accident took place.
