Decomposed body of SI found

CCTV project hits roadblock
Panchkula, March 9
The much-needed outdoor surveillance project of the Panchkula police under which 90 CCTV cameras were to be installed in the town has hit a roadblock as the state government has rejected the proposal.

Making UT model solar city
Govt residences at Sec 7 and 16 to have water-heating systems

In a step towards making the City Beautiful a model solar city, the UT Administration has decided to install solar water-heating systems in all the government residences here. In the first phase, two sectors, 7 and 16, have been selected for the purpose.

Vibrant colours, pichkaris and water balloons marked the festival of Holi which was celebrated with great enthusiasm, here yesterday. Youngsters in high spirit took to the roads to paint the town in different colours. It was pure, simple fun for children who soared high with their pichkaris and balloons taking liberty with strangers on the streets.

One stabbed, over 120 injured on Holi
Panchkula, March 9
An incident of stabbing was also reported from Rajiv colony. The victim has been identified as Mayaram, a colony resident. Mayaram was stabbed by some youths. His condition was said to be serious. Later, he was referred to the PGI, Chandigarh.

DCP wants status reports every week

Learning lessons from the incident wherein a malkhana in-charge hold sold case properties of the 631 cases right under the nose of his seniors, the Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of the police (DCP) has issued fresh directions to all the investigation officers to submit status report of case properties seizures on weekly basis.

FICCI organises seminar on I-T growth

Oath taking on march 14
Mohali, March 9
The oath taking ceremony of the new panel of ministers of the Punjab Government will take place at a historical place in Chapparchiri on March 14. Deputy Chief Minister, Sukhbir Singh Badal, today, reviewed the arrangements at Chapparchiri, where the senior officials of the district were present to get directions from SAD president. The government had, earlier, built a memorial of Baba Banda Singh Bahadur at this place.

PU to host national seminar on Punjabi
Chandigarh, March 9
The department of Punjabi, Panjab University, in collaboration with the Punjabi Akademi, Delhi, is going to organise a two-day national seminar on March 13 and 14 under the theme ‘Samkali Punjab Sahit Vitch Hasiagat Samooha Di Chetna’. Dr Surjit Pattar will be the chief guest of the inaugural session. Well-known Hindi scholar Dr Veer Bharat Talwar, a professor at the Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, will deliver the keynote address.

Female foeticide: Officials seal nursing home, arrest doctor
Fatehgarh Sahib, March 9
A nursing home was sealed by a team of district health department yesterday. The team was led by Dr Gurmail Singh Chahal, civil surgeon. The nursing home was being run by a BAMS couple, near Administrative complex district, carrying out female foeticide in the area by using unregistered ultra sound machine.

Ill-effects of female foeticide, deforestation bared
Fatehgarh Sahib, March 9
‘Katha Rukhan te Kukhan Di’, a play written and directed by noted theatre artist Prof Sompal Heera, was staged at Baba Banda Singh Bahadur Engineering College, Fatehgarh Sahib today to celebrate International Women’s Day. The play conveyed the message that decreasing number of trees, coupled with the problem of female foeticide, are leading to imbalance in the Indian society.

One killed in accident
Kalka, March 9
One person died in a road accident yesterday. Karan Raj and his friend Jai Singh were coming towards Kalka when a a recklessly driven car hit their scooter near the Ramnagar T-point. The scooterists sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the Civil Hospital at Kalka. From there, they were referred to the PGI in Chandigarh.

Group clash leaves seven injured
Ambala March 9
As many as seven persons were injured in a group clash at Ambala City this afternoon. The injured of both the groups were admitted to the Civil Hospital, here. According to information, there was some old rivalry between the two groups.

A few passers-by nabbed a chain snatcher while he was trying to fleeing after snatching the chain of a woman.

Man stabbed, 2 booked
Chandigarh, March 9
Anil Kumar of Colony Number 4 reported to the police that Karan and Ravinder stabbed him near Phase I of Industrial Area on the night of March 7. A case under Sections 307 and 34 of the IPC was registered at the Industrial Area police station.

After five months of efforts, police arrests man
Mohali, March 9
The local police has arrested a man, Harjinder Singh, in connection with some alleged frauds related to property. The accused was produced in a local court and was remanded in the police custody for one day.

High drama after mishap
Chandigarh, March 9
There was high drama at Sector 20 here after the driver of an ambulance, posted at the MLA hostel at Sector 3, hit a scooter near the beat box last evening.
