Power Meter bungling exposed
RTI reveals corporation failed to send 600 energy meters to lab for testing

Pointing a finger at Punjab State Power Corporation Limited (PSPCL) for its failure to send the removed or replaced energy meters to the ME lab for testing, a citizen group has demanded a vigilance probe into the bungling which could have caused a massive loss of revenue to the power utility.

Teacher’s killing sparks debate
Ludhiana, February 10
The incident of killing of teacher by a student in Chennai has sparked a debate in the city schools about the root causes of such intransigence, unruliness and increasing sensitivity towards rebuff and whether students should be given leeway by changing educational system.

MC team razes 12 shops
Ludhiana, February 10
A team of the building branch of the Municipal Corporation (MC) today pulled down nearly 12 shops in Kailash Nagar locality on Gehlewal Road here. These were being constructed without an approved building plan. The ongoing work was not only in violation of the building bylaws, but the shops were coming up right under high tension (HT) lines where construction of any building is prohibited under the Electricity Act. According to MC Commissioner MS Jaggi, the team of civic officials, led by Rajinder Sharma, Assistant Town Planner (A Zone), reached the site where construction of shops was in progress. The structures were pulled down with the help of a bulldozer.

With bullocks on track, life back into games

Fervour marked the second day of the 76th Edition of the Kila Raipur Sports Festival that continued at the Grewal Sports Stadium here today. Relief given by the Punjab and High Court to allow performance of bullock carts races under supervision of the district administration brought life back to the mega event, which was formally inaugurated by Tej Parkash Singh Kotli, former transport minister. Kotli called upon the youths of the area to adopt sportsmanship as an element of lifestyle.
