Boy ‘beaten up’ by teacher

A complaint pertaining to corporal punishment was received by the police control room today.
UT police constable Jarnail Singh alleged that his son Umesh, a Class VI student of St Soldier School in Sector 28, was mercilessly beaten up by his teacher for not doing his homework.
Legal aid clinic comes up at PU

The Panjab University Department of Laws in collaboration with the State Legal Services Authority has set up a legal aid clinic to help those who cannot afford to hire lawyers.

Poll in 13 UT villages passes off peacefully

Election Commissioner has close shave
Zirakpur, January 21
The car of the state Election Commissioner, SS Brar, collided with another vehicle on the Zirakpur-Patiala highway here this afternoon. However, nobody was injured in the accident. The police registered a case. In his complaint, Satish Kumar, the driver of commissioner’s car, said they were going towards Patiala when the vehicle rammed into their car.
Jeev Milkha gets clean chit in accident case

The Chandigarh police has given a clean chit to international golfer Jeev Milkha Singh with the police establishing that his driver only drove the Range Rover on the day of accident. The complainant whose car met with the accident on October 31 had alleged that the person who was booked by the police and surrendered at the police station the next-day was not the one who drove Milkha’s vehicle at the time of accident, following which the case was re-investigated by the police and the accident scene was also recreated.
20 pc decline in consumer cases
Chandigarh, January 21
The consumer courts in the city have witnessed 20 per cent decline in the cases filed by consumers as per figures released by the Secretary of UT State Consumer Commission.
