: According to a notification issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs, the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the empanelment of Sanjiv Gupta, IPS officer of 1982 batch, for holding the post of Joint Secretary or equivalent under the Central Staffing Scheme.

Rewari
One killed
: Rameshwar (40) of the Durga Colony died on the spot while Narender and Chetan, Rameshwar’s relatives, sustained injuries when their car was hit by a tractor at the Kasaula Chowk on Thursday. The mishap took place when the car was on its way from Rewari to Tigaon village in Alwar district of Rajasthan whereas the tractor was coming to Rewari. The tractor driver absconded after abandoning his vehicle there.

SONEPAT
Liquor seized
: As many as 40 boxes of liquor were seized from a vehicle by the police at Garh Mirakpur police post near Yamuna Bridge on the border of Baghpat district in UP on Wednesday. After impounding the vehicle, the 40 boxes were handed over to the Excise Department. The vehicle driver, Tinku, of Silana village, was also taken in police custody after registering a case against him under the Excise Act. 

Downloading cos: Members of the Sonepat Mobile Association on Thursday submitted a memorandum to the Deputy Commissioner against the alleged harassment by the downloading companies in the name of taking downloading licences. In the memorandum, they submitted that they were educated and unemployed and were sustaining their living by mobile repairing and downloading.

Old man dies of burn injuries
: Shiv Raj Singh (66) of Upper Katoran village on Thursday succumbed to his burn injuries at Dr RPGMC Tanda where he was struggling for life for the past six days, the police said. Shiv Raj was getting warmth from a heater when his trousers caught fire and he received 60 per cent burn injuries on January 6 last. He was rushed to the Nagrota Surian hospital from where he was referred to the DRPGMC Tanda.

Former EO arrested
:The state Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Department arrested the former Executive Officer (EO) of the Municipal Council here on Wednesday after the tenure of his anticipatory bail expired. A case was registered against the EO and six others last month on a complaint that a few MC shops and stalls were wrongly allotted SP, Vigilance, Mandi, Virender Sharma, said two patwaris of the Revenue Department had already been arrested in this case .

Training on microbiology
: On the fourth day of a two-week special training on microbiology by the Uttarakhand State Biotechnology Department and Graphic Era University (GEU), on Thursday, young scientists and the participating students were made aware of modern day technology and related equipment. Dr Ashish Thapliyal, a scientist of the Uttarakhand State Biotechnology Department, said: “It is important to upgrade the technology and provide all information dealing with microbiology to students and research scholars. We wish that our budding microbiologists should come up with innovations and special research that could set example for others in the industry.”
