CNG goes up by Rs
1.75 in Delhi
New Delhi, December 30 In NCR, the gas will now cost Rs 33.75 a kg in Delhi. In Ghaziabad, Noida and Greater Noida consumers will have to pay Rs 37.90 for a kg of CNG. IGL managing director M Ravindran said the company was compelled to increase the price because of the recent depreciation in the value of the rupee against the dollar. "We have been forced to increase the retail price of CNG due to major increase in the input cost of entire pool of natural gas being sourced by us as a result of recent appreciation of dollar vis-à-vis rupee and the increased dependence on imported Spot R-LNG." IGL estimates that the increase for auto-rickshaws would be 5 paise per km and for taxis 8 paise per km. In case of buses, the increase would be 50 paise per km, which translates to less than one paisa per passenger per km. Prices of CNG have been hiked for the fifth time this year. The last hike was October 1, when it was increased by Rs 2 per kg in Delhi. The Indian rupee has depreciated by almost 20 per cent against the US dollar in the past five months. As a result of this, the IGL has to pay more to import gas. But observers say the hike in CNG price will make commuting costlier in NCR. As per the government directive, all light commercial vehicles and most buses run on CNG in the Delhi region. However criticising the hike, the Opposition BJP said that the hike was a New Year gift for the people of Delhi by the Congress government. The party termed the decision of the government as insensitive and anti-people and said that due to this decision the public transport would become more costly. "In place curbing price spiral and stabilising prices, the government is taking such anti-people decisions. The government is acting like a profiteer," said Delhi unit chief of the BJP Vijender Gupta. |
NDMC: 30 pc hike in parking rates soon
New Delhi, December 30 The new parking rates might be implemented from January. The civic agency said as per the recommendations of the Supreme Court-appointed monitoring committee, it had been working to hike the charges. Though, the committee had recommended a 50 per cent increase in parking rates to promote public transport. According to the new rates, Rs 10 per hour will be hiked to Rs 13. The initial plan was to implement the new rates in Sarojini Nagar where first automated multi-level car parking lot was inaugurated last month. But later the NDMC decided to implement the rates in all its markets. Sources said that the decision was taken to encourage people to use the multi-level parking lot. The construction of a high-tech parking complex in Sarojini Nagar has apparently done little to ease the congestion of parked cars in the market area. "Despite the presence of an 800-vehicle capacity automated state-of-the-art parking complex, vehicles are seen parked all over the market even on the road leading up to the parking complex," said a senior NDMC official. He said in order to curb this practice of parking cars on the road the NDMC had decided a separate parking area at a distance from the market and raising its charge substantially higher than that levied at the parking complex. The official also said that the civic agency was waiting for the Delhi government to finalise the parking rates as recommended by the special taskforce appointed by the Delhi High Court, which submitted its report a few months ago. "We will wait for 15 to 20 days. In case the government is not able to finalise the rates, we will increase the rates for surface-level parking by 30 per cent in the NDMC markets. The monitoring committee had also recommended at least 50 per cent increase in parking rates in the city. We will allow one car per shop in surface-level parking lots," said a senior NDMC official. The traders' associations are planning to approach the NDMC for free parking for shop owners. "As of now, we don't pay for any parking charges. We are demanding that the NDMC should allow traders to park free of cost even after the new rates are implemented," said Randhawa. NDMC officials said that one car per shop owner would be allowed for free parking. |

Reliance Metro has responded to this issue and arranged for a more commuter-friendly service during the whole night on December 31," said a Reliance Infrastructure spokesperson. Noida Ext flat owners to move court against builder
Noida, December 30 The Noida Extension Flat Owners and Members Association (NEFOMA) decided that it would approach court in the second week of January. "Palm Olympia Builder is charging interest from buyers. We have asked all Palm Olympia flat buyers to come with their copies of the demand letter on January 8 at Gole Chakkar here to plan our legal options," NEFOMA general secretary Shweta Tiwari said. The letter said that interests ranging from Rs 50,000 to Rs 70,000 be paid within a fixed period, she claimed. Flat owners are not willing to pay the interests as the delay in executing the project was due to the stalling of the construction work following the court order in land acquisition cases, Tiwari said. "We have also decided that if the demands of flat owners are not met before January 5, we will go to the National Capital Region Planning Board, Lodhi Colony Office, on January 9 and protest there," she said.
