GMCH refuses to deliver 2nd child

The Indian government may have adopted the two child norm for the country with its slogan of ‘hum do hamare do’ (we two, ours two), but the Chandigarh administration run Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32 appears to be dictating it’s own arbitrary policy of “only one child” by outrightly refusing normal delivery of a second child at the hospital.
PU student expelled from hostel, fined Rs 25,000
Chandigarh, September 16
Holding Sahil Gupta of Panjab University Chemical Engineering Institute guilty of ragging Saksham Bhatnagar, a first year student, the university has expelled him from the hostel, besides slapping a fine of Rs 25,000 on him.

Shatabdi, Himalayan Queen late by 3 hrs

The New Delhi-Shimla Himalayan Queen and the New Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi Express arrived late by over three and half hours at the Chandigarh railway station here this afternoon.
Amritsar-city Duronto Express loses steam
Chandigarh, September 16
The Amritsar-Chandigarh Duronto Express, which was launched amid much fanfare three weeks ago, is losing steam as the number of passengers has gone down considerably since its start.
According to sources, the senior divisional commercial manager, Ferozepur, in a communiqué to the Railway Division Ambala had banned unreserved current bookings from September 12, resulting in a further decline in the number of passengers travelling from the city. As a result, the railways is suffering a loss of lakhs of rupees every day, the sources say.

Tired of stench, Dadu Majra residents block dumper trucks

Annoyed by the municipal corporation’s failure to deal with the stench emanating from the Dadu Majra dumping ground, area residents staged a protest by preventing MC vehicles from dumping garbage at the ground.
Reply sought from DC, hotel body

The Deputy Commissioner, the Registrar of Societies and the Hotel and the Restaurant Association of Chandigarh
(HRAC) have been asked to reply to a petition by November 9 after the case, questioning the existence of the association led by Manmohan Singh
Kohli, came up for hearing at the district courts here today. Three city hoteliers — Atul Grover, Aman Aggarwal and Ankit Gupta — had filed the petition alleging that the HRAC was not functioning as per the rules and regulation of the Societies Act, 1860.
Campaigning ends on high pitch

As campaigning for Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections came to an end this evening, the joint candidate of the Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) and the Sant Samaj from Mohali, JP Singh, today sought disqualification of Independent candidate Hardeep Singh on the grounds of his conviction by the Punjab and Haryana High Court in a case of chain snatching 27 years back.

A newly set up joint electricity meter box caught fire at Punjab Modern Complex in Baltana here this morning. Residents said the incident occurred around 2:30 am.

PU student council declares poll expenditure

While the UT police in its recent poll audit found all student parties to have blatantly violated the Lyngdoh Committee recommendations specifying Rs 5,000 as maximum election budget per candidate, in their self-declaration the Panjab University council members have summed up their expenditure within Rs 5,000, even as three out of four members have failed to provide any supporting bills.
