Sukhna in for makeover

The picturesque Sukhna Lake, Chandigarh’s most-frequented tourist spot, is set to don a new look with major overhaul of the existing infrastructure resulting in the addition of better landscaping, new walkways, trekking trails, gazebos, besides the Garden of Silence at the Regulator End.

Blame it on the ignorance of applicants or the apathy of the postal department employees, the Panjab University’s handbook of information worth Rs 500 is being “forcibly” given to applicants along with the “department admission form”.

20 CCTV cameras to keep vigil in Panchkula

In view of the rising crime in the town the district police would soon install 20 CCTV cameras at the entry and exit points of Panchkula district to keep tab on the anti-social elements.

Health dept to study obesity-related problems in schoolchildren
Chandigarh, June 25
The health department of the Union Territory of Chandigarh has decided to launch a special drive to study obesity-related complications among students of many private schools here. Though the names of the schools are yet to be finalised, the programme to assess the health condition of students will be initiated after the summer vacations are over next month. The study will help in formulating programmes and schemes for the health care of children.

Authorities clear blocked sewerage
Mohali, June 25
The blockage of sewer water in Kumbra village, which was adversely affecting about 100 families, was today cleared by officials concerned on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner.

A 32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was killed and a passenger sitting on the rear seat critically injured when a rashly driven Indica car (HR-01-W-1939) hit them at the Sector 45-46-49-50 light point this morning.
