Revenue dept to hold bi-monthly camps

Kharar, June 25
Mohali Deputy Commissioner Varun Roojam today said the revenue department would hold camps twice a month to settle cases related to the department. He was present at a camp held at the BDPO complex in the Majri kanugo circle area.

Roojam added that camps would be held on every first and last Saturday in the kanugo circle of a tehsil. The pending cases pertaining to the revenue department and land records would also be made available to people during these camps. He asked people to get benefits out of these camps and get rid of harassments in government offices. In today’s camp, he said 106 inteqal and three copies of land record of 32 villages under 10 patwar circles were given to people. He also listened to queries of villagers and solved them.

Man booked for molesting student
Accused is husband of nursing college’s chairperson

Ambala, June 25
Sadar police station, Ambala City, has registered a case against Suresh Jha, husband of the chairperson of a Nursing College of Ambala City under Section 354 (molestation) and 506 (criminal intimidation) for allegedly molesting a nursing student of the college.

Three days back Lovely Sharma, mother of the victim, had submitted a complaint with the SP, Ambala, in which she had alleged that Suresh Jha had molested her daughter on May 19, luring her to enhance her marks in the examination and later he repeated it on June 17. The victim informed the entire episode to her mother who lives in Kurukshetra. Lovely, along with her relatives, met senior police officers in this regard.

She informed the police that her two daughters were doing nursing course from this college. She alleged that Jha had struck off the name of one of her daughters from the college to pressurise her.

SHO, Sadar police station, Bharat Singh was handed over the investigation of the case. Both the parties were summoned in the police station today. An attempt was made to settle the matter amicably, but the mother of the victim was adamant for the registration of a case against Jha. Later, on the complaint of the mother a case was registered against Jha.

Meanwhile, Jha said he was falsely implicated in the case. He could not ruin the prestige of his college, he added.

4 booked for assault

Four persons had allegedly attacked a resident of Samgouli village last night.

The injured, identified as Pardeep Kumar, was admitted to the GMCH, Chandigarh.

In his complaint to the police, he stated that the incident took place when he was sleeping in his house. The police has registered a case.

Drunk driving
Another 6 imprisoned till rising of court

Continuing with its drive to punish drunk drivers, the Special Traffic Court of Deepak Raj Garg today imprisoned another six persons found drunk while driving till the rising of the court.

The six were directed to stay inside the courtroom for the day and were let off in evening after paying a hefty fine. Five persons out of the six, who were imprisoned, were driving cars while one was riding a scooter when he was challaned.

Deputy Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Vijay Kumar said the heaviest fine was imposed on a Sector 20 resident, Kamaljit Singh, whose alcohol content at the time he was challaned was 185 mg. “He was imprisoned till the rising of the court and imposed a fine of Rs 4,500 as his vehicle was without documents,” the DSP said.

With this, the total number of persons found drunk while driving ever since the police started this initiative to seek imprisonment of drunk drivers from the court has reached 16. Six drunk drivers were imprisoned on June 20 till the rising of the court and another five were imprisoned on June 21. A total of 12 persons appeared in the court today to get their challan released when six out of them were imprisoned till the rising of court while the rest were released after paying a fine.

The offenders who were imprisoned have been identified as Rajinder Singh of Sector 56, Sukhdev Kumar of Sector 44, Deepak of Sector 48, Rajesh Verma of Sector 2, Panchkula, Nihal Singh of Sector 46 and Kamaljit Singh of Sector 20.

The DSP added that the police would strengthen the drive in the coming days and will seek stringent punishment from the court for those found heavily drunk while driving.

3 theft accused sent to judicial custody

The police has arrested a thief who was involved in six cases of theft at Pinjore, Kalka and Sector-14 in the town, and recovered various goods worth Rs 25,000 from his possession.

The accused has been identified as Anil Kumar, a resident of Mauli Jagran, near Chandigarh. He was produced in the court today, which sent him to judicial custody at Ambala Central Jail. Anil was involved in three cases of theft in Pinjore, two cases in Kalka and one in Sector 14, Panchkula, as he had stolen 22 kg of sports weight, 20 taps, two clocks, one fridge, a TV set and a blender worth Rs 25,000.

The police said the accused was taken on production warrant from Burail jail, Chandigarh, on Friday in a case registered against him in Kalka. During interrogation the accused confessed to have committed other five robberies also.

Meanwhile, two more accused involved in a theft case were arrested by the CIA staff. The theft occurred at a department shop in Old Panchkula on May 8. The accused have been identified as Sanjit, alias Churi, and Rishi, alias Risha, both residents of Deha Jhuggi, Gate Number 3, Old Panchkula. The two accused were also produced in the court today, which sent them to judicial custody.

Auto driver dies in mishap
Passenger hurt

Chandigarh, June 25
A 32-year-old auto-rickshaw driver was killed and a passenger sitting on the rear seat critically injured when a rashly driven Indica car (HR-01-W-1939) hit them at the Sector 45-46-49-50 light point this morning.

The auto (CH-01-TA-0166) was on way to Mohali to drop a passenger when the mishap took place. The police arrested and booked the driver of the car, identified as Sanjeev Bhatia, a Zirakpur resident, in a case of causing death due to negligence under Section 304-A of the IPC.

The victim, Santosh Kumar, a resident of Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh, received a grievous head injury as the auto-rickshaw turned turtle. He was declared brought dead at Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32. The passenger, Anand Kumar, a Sector-20 resident, suffered serious injuries and was referred to the PGI.

Investigations revealed that the Indica car was being driven at a breakneck speed and was coming from the wrong side when it hit the auto.

25-yr-old held for theft in Zirakpur

Zirakpur, June 25
The police has arrested a 25-year-old Uttaranchal-based youth in a theft case here today.

The police has also recovered stolen goods worth Rs 1 lakh from his possession. He had dumped the booty in a vacant plot near the Baltana furniture market. The accused has been identified as Vijay Kumar, a resident of Chamoli in Uttaranchal on the complaint of Rinki Yadav, a resident of Punjab Modern Complex, Baltana.

Investigating officer Gurmail Singh said they received a theft complaint from Rinki Yadav in the morning. She suspected that the accused had stolen money from her house.

A naka was set up near Harmilap Nagar and Vijay Kumar was nabbed near the railway crossing. The investigating officer said that during interrogation, it was found that the accused had dumped the stolen goods, including jewellery in a vacant plot near the Baltana furniture market.

The police said the accused would be produced in a local court tomorrow.

Abduction

The police today booked a person for abducting a girl from Zirakpur. The accused has been identified as Yuraj, alias Rocky, who was working as a driver with a private transport company. The complainant, Beni Prasad, a resident of the Telephone Exchange Colony, told the police that her granddaughter was working in a private telecommunication company. She alleged that the accused lured her granddaughter for marriage and took her away. The accused is still at large, the police said. A case has been registered.

Theft

The police registered a theft case against unidentified persons following a complaint by Sanjay Minda, owner of a tyre shop and a resident of Panchkula. In his complaint, Sanjay said that he closed his shop on June 23 night and the theft was noticed the next morning. He told the police that tyres were missing from his shop.

Couple injured in accident

Ropar: A couple from Amritsar was injured when the Indica car they were travelling in was hit by a tractor-trailer near Kurali.

The incident took place when 31-years-old Vishal, his 28-years-old wife Pooja, their daughter Jahanvi and Vishal’s mother were travelling in an Indica Vista car from Amritsar to Kurali. When they reached near CM Autos, a tractor-trolley rammed into the car. With the impact of collision, the car rammed into a stationary bus.

Vishal and Pooja received injured, while Jahanvi and her grandmother escaped unhurt.

Amritsar, Patiala enter final

Rain washed away all hopes of Chandigarh and Mohali to force a result in their Punjab Inter-District Cricket (U-22) Tournament match at the PCA Stadium in Mohali today. Patiala would face Amritsar in the final.

The match between Chandigarh and Mohali finished in a draw as Mohali’s first innings could not be completed due to heavy showers. Both teams were awarded one point each.

In the second match of the day, hosts Amritsar scored 300 for 5 against Jalandhar. Resuming on the overnight score of 78 for 1, they took the lead in the first innings, securing full points.

Opener Shiv Love contributed 95 runs to the team total. Aman Bawa and Ramesh Arya were both unbeaten on 32. For Jalandhar, Pargat Singh was the pick of the bowlers with 2 for 94.

In the third match, hosts Patiala and Ludhiana had to settle for a draw as Ludhiana’s first innings could not be completed. Both teams were awarded one point each.

In the play possible, Ludhiana scored 134 for 9 in 40 overs. Himanshu was the top scorer in the team total with 44-runs. For Patiala, Bavish Goyal took 3 for 30.

P’kula athletes win top honours

Panchkula won top honours in badminton, judo and athletics during the inter-zonal Haryana Premier League Tournament at Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Sector 3, here today.

In the 100m, Amrinder of Panchkula bagged the gold medal. Manpreet and Karmarsh from Kaithal won silver and bronze, respectively. In the high jump, Rupinder of Panchkula won gold. Manish and Raju won silver and bronze, respectively.

In judo, Avnish bagged gold in the 50-kg category and Omparkash was first in the 56-kg event. In basketball, Kurushetra finished winners while Panchkula and Yamunangar were second and third, respectively.

The Chandigarh Cricket Association has selected the team for the Haryana Inter-District Cricket (U-19) Tournament. They will play their first match on June 26.

Kamaljit, Sandeep win gold

Chandigarh, June 25
City lad Kamaljit and inter-university champion Sandeep Tomar have bagged a gold medal each in the 30th Boys and 13th Girls Junior National Wrestling Championship at Jammu University recently.

Sandeep won in the 55-kg freestyle and Kamaljit was first in the above-96-kg category. The Haryana junior girls’ team bagged seven of the eight gold medals in the freestyle competitions. Haryana boys’ A emerged champions in the Greco-Roman event. — TNS
