UT to get Rs 10 crore for six new schools

In what is bound to make education easily accessible to all, especially in rural areas and colonies, the UT Administration will be receiving a whooping grant of Rs 10 crore for constructing six new schools and enhancing 13 existing ones.

City on way to curb smoking

Land finalised for MC office
Zirakpur, May 30
The Zirakpur Municipal Council has finalised a land for building a new MC office near Punjab Sewerage and Water Supply office at old Kalka road. A resolution to this effect was passed at the MC meeting at its office here today. Earlier, the council had selected the land to set up the building in Bishanpura village opposite the police station.

Labourer buried alive as sand caves in
Zirakpur, May 30
A labourer was buried alive when a mound of sand caved in while he was digging a pit for laying down the sewerage line from pumping station to Ghaggar river in Shatabhgarh village. The labourer was identified as Balbir Singh. He was hired by a private contractor on Rs 450 per day from the Zirakpur labour chowk.
