Majority of kidnapping cases those of elopement: Police
Ludhiana, May 22
If the data available with the city police is any indication, more than one-third of the total kidnapping cases registered with the police stations have turned out to be those of "elopement' in which minor and major girls and boys left their homes on their own. While there are genuine cases of kidnapping too, a majority of the reported cases of kidnapping have turned out to be those of elopement.
"Initially, the cases are registered to be that of kidnapping, but when the police investigates the matters in detail, it is found that a majority of boys and girls (both minors and adults) leave their homes on their own wish," said Ishwar Singh, Commissioner of Police here.
As per available data, in the year 2010, the city police registered 108 cases of "kidnapping", out of which 23 were found to be fake while seven cases were settled during the investigation period. In 68 cases, the girls and boys had left heir homes on their own. Out of the total number, the genuine cases of kidnapping were 29.

Nullah, which was re-carpeted at a cost of Rs 26 lakh a few months ago, has once again been partly dug up for diverting the sewerage disposal system, which earlier used to flow into the
