PAU union president goes on indefinite fast

Seeking a permanent solution to the problem of delayed salaries, president of the PAU Employees Union Harbans Singh Mundi today sat on an indefinite hunger strike, opposite Thapar Hall, in the campus here today. The president of the union would continue the stir till the state government or the PAU authorities gave any written assurance in this regard.

Duty stays, garment makers feel the heat

PUDA sells four shops in city for Rs 3.48 crore

The sale of four single storeyed shops in Green Park Enclave yielded around Rs 3.48 crore to the Punjab Urban Planning and Development Authority here today. On offer were 14 shops of various sizes with a reserve price tag of Rs 2,53,493 per sq metre. But in the wake of the lukewarm response of buyers, with just about seven-eight persons turning up to offer bids, only four shops were sold in the auction at a marginal premium.
Civic bodies receive grants

Sunflower production up rise
Ludhiana, May 16
Due to its short duration and good remuneration, sunflower was widely adapted in Punjab particularly in the potato belt. Area under this crop increased from about 10,000 hectares in 2000-01 to about 22,000 hectares during 2009-10 in the state. Total production of sunflower in 2009-10 was about 40,000 tonnes with an average yield of about 18 quintals per hectare.
Violation of building bylaws on in city

Building bylaws are being violated with impunity thanks to conniving officials as well as regulatory field staff of the municipal corporation (MC). Illegal extensions of residential and commercial buildings, construction of buildings without approved plans, raising commercial and industrial buildings in residential areas and coverage over the permissible limit are common.

Rude shock: Visitors find themselves shut out from park
