Conman arrested, Rs 4.70 lakh recovered
Hoshiarpur, April 29 The conman has been identified as Pawan Lubana, resident of Dolan, Kotaklur police station, Bilaspur district, Himachal Pradesh, presently residing at Davida Ahrana, Mehtiana police station. The police recovered Rs 4.70 lakh, two counterfeit stamps along with letterhead, mobile phone and damaged SIM card. Talking to mediapersons here today, SSP Rakesh Aggarwal said Onkar Singh of Rasoolpur, Chhabewal police station, stated that he had been working in GNA factory, Mehtiana, where Harpreet Singh, alias Happy of Pandori Kad was also working. He told Harpreet Singh that he did diploma in electronics and was interested in doing a job as a JE. Harpreet told him that his cousin Pawan Lubana, who know the General Manager and SDO working in the BSNL Exchange, Sector 34 A, Chandigarh, might provide him a government job. After meeting Pawan Lubana, he gave a total of Rs 4.70 lakh on his demand on different occasions. On September 8, 2010, Pawan Lubana provided him an appointment letter of the office of General Manager, BSNL, Sangrur, and told him that he did not have an experience certificate and took Rs 40,000 for preparing the certificate and thereafter Rs 1.80 lakh for attesting the same. Later, he provided him the appointment letter of the BSNL office, Amritsar, and also provided a cheque for Rs 54,000 of the State Bank of Patiala as advance salary with instructions not to encash the same. When Onkar Singh realised that he was cheated by Pawan Lubana, he approached Chabewal police station, which registered a case under Sections 406, 420 and 34 of the IPC on his complaint. Similarly, Pawan Lubana also swindled Rs 60,000 out of Jagjit Singh of Ajram in the name of providing him employment in the BSNL. Pawan Lubana confessed that he told people that he had done BTech and know senior officers for impressing them. He took money from the educated youths in the name of getting them jobs. He also used “voice changer” facility from his another mobile phone and talked with the youths to con them by posing himself as SDE Rajinder Singh calling from the BSNL office, Chandigarh. |

‘Filling plants, not dealers responsible for LPG shortage’
Hoshiarpur, April 29 This was claimed by president of the district unit of the All-India LPG Distributors Federation Harsimarjit Kaur after submitting the charter of demands to the Union Petroleum Minister and Food and Supplies Minister, Punjab, through the Deputy Commissioner here today. Giving contents of their charter of demands, Harsimarjit Kaur said due to short supply of LPG cylinders, consumers had to wait from 20 to 25 days for getting filled cooking gas cylinder after its booking. The situation was causing strained relations between the agency holders and consumers, which even led to their clash. Recently, a clash took place between the owner of Ganpati Gas Agency (HPCL dealer), Dasuya, and some consumers for which an FIR was also lodged in a police station. The federation demanded security for LPG agency holders and their staff, introduction of permit system for issuing the filled commercial gas cylinders at marriage palaces, hotels and other business establishments, taking the version of agency holders by the administration before taking any action on the complaints of consumers, deputation of employees by the District Food and Civil Supplies Department at all the agencies for fair distribution of filled LPG cylinders and ensuring police patrolling around the agency offices to avert any untoward incident. |

Hoshiarpur, April 29 According to Dr Yash Mitra, the NRI had been preparing spurious desi ghee and tea and after packing them under various renowned brands used to supply them to shopkeepers. He said two samples of spices were also seized and sent to the Government Laboratory for testing. |

Nawanshahr, April 29 The first such programme was organised here at Community Police Resource Centre by the district police on Thursday. MF Farooqui, DIG, Ropar Range, accompanied by SSP Narinder Bhargav heard 152 complaints pertaining to family disputes, property disputes and NRI disputes and settled the cases on the spot. In four disputes, the SHOs concerned were asked to register cases. Separate counters, including women cell and economic offence cell, were set up to settle the pending cases as well as to deal with the fresh complaints. Besides police officials, social activists, who were members of the Family Counselling Cell, were also present. Addressing the gathering on the occasion, DIG MF Farooqui said “In most cases, petty disputes turn into prestige issue, consequently spoiling the tranquillity as well as time and money for the whole life.” He urged the society to evolve a mechanism to resolve petty disputes at family or panchayat level in such a way that the persons committing atrocities should be snubbed in the very beginning. While asking the police officials to take immediate and impartial action to provide justice to the aggrieved, the DIG said the idea of sangat darshan had been chalked out to ensure transparent as well as speedy redressal of complaints. Similar programme would also be organised at Mohali and Ropar soon, he added. SSP Bhargav said the exercise would help boost confidence of the people in the police, thus, strengthening police-public coordination. “In turn, the better police-public coordination would help the police to serve society more efficiently,” he said. |

Postal Department extends offer
Jalandhar, April 29 The department is alluring customers with a lucrative offer of additional free gold at every purchase of a gold coin. Moreover, the gold coin that earlier used to bear the logo of the Reliance Money Express will now have logos of the India Post and World Gold Council. Talking to The Tribune, Senior Superintendent of Post Offices, Jalandhar division, said the service was also available at Jaldnahar Cantonment (HO), Model Town (SO), Grain Market (SO) and Nawanshahr (MDG). To facilitate the customers, the department had decided to extend the working hours of the public counter of the Grain Market Post Office. The counters will remain open from 9 am to 3 pm on all working days. Earlier, the counters used to remain open from 9 am to 2 pm from Monday till Friday and from 9 am till 12 noon on Saturday. |
Ten injured as auto-rickshaw overturns
Pathankot, April 29 According to the police, the auto-rickshaw was on its way to Pathankot from Sujanpur. As it reached near Kalyari More, the vehicle driver negotiating a curve lost control over the steering. The injured, identified as Shakuntla Devi, Som Dass, Rekha Devi, Tripta Devi and Harmeet, have been admitted to the Civil Hospital here while other five were discharged after treatment. DSP Naresh Dogra said action would be taken against the driver. |

Nakodar, April 29 The victim told the police that on Thursday evening, when he was standing in front of his house, six person Gurbej, Butta, Jaswant, Dilbag, Mandeep and Sukhvir came and started beating him up. He sustained serious injuries and was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital. A case under Sections 323 and 324 of the IPC was registered. |
Hospital’s negligence costs man his life
Pathankot, April 29 Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Karam Chand said Ashwani Babbar, a resident of Sujanpur, was admitted to the Janjua Hospital for treatment but he died. Deceased’s relatives alleged that the death was caused due to the negligence of the hospital. The DSP said further action would be taken after the investigation. |
