SGPC seeks adequate security at venue
Tribune News Service

Ambala, April 21
A deputation of the Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (SGPC) here today submitted a memorandum to the district administration seeking adequate security arrangements for the religious conclave that the SGPC was organising at Gurdwara Baba Jorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh at Dosarka on April 23.

The deputation pointed out in the memorandum that the function was scheduled to be attended by SGPC president Avtar Singh Makkar besides other SGPC functionaries.

Members of the Haryana Shiromani Gurdwara Prabandhak Committee (HSGPC) had yesterday made a complaint to the Ambala Deputy Commissioner, the Superintendent of Police and the Barara Sub-Divisional Magistrate demanding a ban on “Gurmat Samagam” function which was being held near Gurdwara Baba Jorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh at Dosarka, the state head office of the HSGPC, as announced by Baldev Singh member of the SGPC (Amritsar) in a press conference here.

Jasbir Singh Khalsa, joint secretary, HSGPC, condemned the act saying the government should impose a ban on the function, which may disturb peace due to conflict between the supporters of both groups.

He said the state government had not permitted HSGPC president Jagdish Singh Jhinda to perform Sukhmani prayers at Kurukshetra and Panjokhra Saheb gurdwaras under the SGPC management sometime ago.

He blamed the SGPC for trying to disturb atmosphere by organising a function near Gurdwara Baba Jorawar Singh Baba Fateh Singh, and urged the district administration not to allow it to take place.
