Road work proves to be bane of residents
Pitthoragarh, March 25 “Our daily routine has been badly disturbed as this road has remained blocked more than 15 times in the last six months,” said social worker of Mangti Janak Singh. The 25-km-long motor road slides as soon as the BRO workers start cutting the hill upside. “These are weak rocks and whenever our workers start cutting them, the upward rocks start sliding causing difficulties for the villagers and even proving risky for the workers,” said BRO officer NK Nayar. “We cannot even predict opening up of the road in future,” said Nayar. The villagers say that this continuous blockage has compelled the villagers of Garvadhar, Pangla Mangti and Zipti villages either to remain in the village or wait for the moment the road opens for a while. “We get a very limited time to cross the road, as it happened yesterday, when after remaining open for transportation only for a day after remaining close for a week, the road was again covered with heavy slides,” said Janak. “We are facing the challenge of keeping the transportation continuous on this road. The road is highly sensitive to the landslides,” said Nayar. |
