Dislodge Hooda Govt, Chautala urges Prez
New Delhi, March 3 Chautala submitted a memorandum to the President at a rally here at Jantar Mantar where thousands of people had gathered to express their support to the INLD demands. “Haryana is an agriculture-based state that supplies farm products to the entire country. If prime land is acquired and sold for constructing houses, there could be a food crisis in the state soon,” he
warned. Addressing the huge gathering, Chautala alleged that Hooda had been “misusing” the Land Acquisition Act-1894 to benefit corporate houses, builders and industrialists in total disregard of the interest of farmers. In the name of special economic zone, thousands of acres of land had been allotted to the Reliance group in the Gurgaon-Jhajjar region. It was the same story in Sonepat where the government had acquired 885 acres of land for constructing 60 housing complexes for industrial workers. Of this land, only 61 acres was notified and the remaining was sold to Taneja Development Infrastructure Limited at throwaway rates, he said. |
1984 KILLINGS
Chandigarh, March 3 The intention was to inform the Bench as to when the petitioners had learnt about the incident. The petition filed by the New York-registered Sikhs for Justice and the All-India Sikh Students Federation was, in fact, adjourned twice with the Bench of Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi and Justice Augustine George Masih asking the petitioners as to when they had come to know about the incident. The Bench issued a notice of motion to the State of Haryana and other respondents for April 8. The petitioners are seeking a probe into the killings by a retired High Court Judge. In their petition against the State of Haryana, the then Rewari Superintendent of Police and another respondent, they have also sought CBI assistance for the probing judge. The petitioners say that the victims’ belongings were burnt and a gurdwara was reduced to ashes. But the authorities on January 16, 2006, had pronounced compensation for the next of kin of the deceased and no compensation was paid for other losses. Counsel Navkiran Singh told the court that the FIR dated November 3, 1984, registered under Sections 148, 149, 302, 436 and 34 of the IPC at the Jatusana police station had not been investigated properly. |
SI in the dock for false case against NRI
Chandigarh, March 3 Also, Justice Satish Kumar Mittal and Justice M. Jeyapaul have asked the High Court Registrar to furnish a complaint against the erring SI. The DGP has been asked to initiate disciplinary proceedings against him. The Bench has also called for better treatment of NRIs. The judgment lays bare the claims of successive governments, both at the Centre and in states, that efforts are being made to woo the NRIs back to their homeland. The case dates back to April 14, 2002, when the body of one Kuldeep Singh was found lying on the road. The brother of the deceased told the police that he suspected the NRI of having illicit ties with his sister-in-law. The police then proceeded against Ajit Singh of London’s Hay Mill Close who was subsequently sentenced to life imprisonment by a Gurgaon court. Setting aside the judgment, the Bench asserted: “A false case has virtually pushed the appellant to penury…. We record our prima facie conclusion as to fabrication of evidence by SI Dharampal Singh of the CIA staff…. “A case of accidental death was intentionally converted by the SI into a case of murder, implicating the appellant in order to fleece him… A blood-stained stone was purposely introduced by the SI with a view to book a false case of murder against the appellant”. The Bench said it was clear that the NRI has been shabbily treated, with an eye on his money. “In our opinion, such false implication will send a wrong message to persons living permanently on foreign shores. It is high time such a trend is nipped in the bud before it snowballs into a gigantic problem”. |

Jobs: CPM says women being discriminated against
Rohtak, March 3 In a press communique issued here today the party’s state secretariat recalled that it was not only for the recruitment to the posts of school lecturer alone that women had been discriminated against. But it said surprisingly no female candidate was selected for the posts of physical training instructor in the general category last year. The party said it had raised this issue through a letter to the Chief Minister on December 19, but to no avail. The party has described the claim of the Haryana Education Minister of being sensitive to women as highly ridiculous. It said the minister had herself admitted that the aggrieved female candidates had met her and complained of the discrimination meted out to them. But she failed to take any corrective action. The party has also strongly criticised the functioning of the Haryana Public Service Commission (HPSC), which, it said, had been flagrantly violating the Constitution. A memorandum had been submitted to the state government through the Governor on January 30, but according to the party sources, no cognisance was taken of the matter. |
HJC chief Bishnoi hits out at Sonia on scams
Hisar, March 3 He alleged that the scale of scams was unprecedented and never before had any other government at the Centre been found involved in looting so much of public money. Bishnoi also accused Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda of “breaking all records” of corruption in Haryana. Claiming credit for exposing the involvement of the Hooda government in land scams, he said the rule of law existed in Haryana only on paper. He said the law and order situation had been constantly deteriorating and the state’s resources were not being distributed equitably. The HJC leader alleged that Hooda and former Chief Minister Om Prakash Chautala were hand in glove with each other. He said before the Congress came to power in 2005, it had given a memorandum against Chautala to the then Governor levelling charges of corruption against the INLD leader. However, after coming to power the Hooda government had not ordered any probe into those allegations. He said he was overwhelmed by the public response to his tractor tour. The yatra is scheduled to end in Delhi on March 9. |
