No clue yet about absconding domestic help
Dehradun, February 22 The victims, Sagar Chand Gupta and Kanta Gupta, both in their 70s, were found unconscious by a relative after the incident. They were admitted to the ICU in CMI Hospital. At that time, they were not in a position to tell the police about the things that were stolen from their place. Now, the couple has got well and having returned home, they told the police about what the servant had allegedly decamped with. Station House Officer (SHO) of the Dalanwala police station told The Tribune, “A sum of Rs 15,000-20,000 has been stolen from the house. Plus, three to four wrist watches are also missing”. The SHO maintained that mobile phones and laptops had not been stolen. “The family doesn’t keep jewellery at their house,” Rawat said. Gupta, a retired executive engineer from the PWD, and his wife, a homemaker, were given food which was laced with some poisonous substance by their servant Shankar at about 2 pm on Wednesday. As a result, the duo had became unconscious. The couple’s two sons - Rajnish Gupta and Manish Gupta - work in Dubai.
No photo, address of servant Despite the state capital police having released sketches of the servant in all districts of the state, there is no clue about the servant Shankar, a native of Nepal, who allegedly committed the theft after poisoning the couple. The SHO said the family didn’t have his photograph, phone number or any address, making it very difficult to trace the domestic help. The family had hired Shankar through a classified advertisement four to five days before the crime was committed. The couple’s son Rajnish Gupta had interviewed the servant, but had not submitted the verification form with the police though he had brought one from the Arha Ghar police chowki. |

Dolis to get touch of German design
Dehradun, February 22 Two designers from Hanover University, Germany, who are already undergoing training at the National Institute of Design (NID), Ahmedabad, have been roped in to improve the design of the dolis. Not only will they enhance the aesthetic appeal of the dolis, adding comfort level for patients, but also reduce the burden on the palanquin bearers who have to cover several kilometres on foot. “This is a stopgap arrangement till the time the transportation facilities and other infrastructure facilities are not augmented in the remote areas of the hills. Our emergency ambulances can only reach wherever there is road network. There are several villages that can only be reached on foot while negotiating the narrow mountainous tracks surrounded by deep ravines. And whenever somebody takes ill in these villages, the dolis come in handy,” said Anoop Nautiyal, CO, GVK EMRI 108, while interacting with mediapersons today. To get them acquainted with the harsh terrain of the hills, the EMRI took the two German designers, Henrik and Frank, to Uttarkashi on a study trip. And what a learning experience it was for the duo who saw for themselves how the doli becomes a lifeline for the villagers in troubled times. “It is tough for the palanquin bearers who carry the load pushing themselves to the extreme. Our design will be user friendly allowing equal distribution of load so that the bearers of the palanquin are not unduly stressed. The comfort level of critical patients will be taken care of,” said Henrik. In fact, the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) has already accepted the proposal and also agreed to fund the project in districts of Bageshwar and Pithoragarh in Kumaon and districts of Chamoli and Uttarkashi in Garhwal. Around 500 dolis will be designed for 500 villages and these would be run under the supervision of villagers/pradhans, village-level health committees and a cadre of health workers in the remote areas created by GVK EMRI. “We will have to make the project cost effective and select a material that is able to withstands extreme environmental conditions while ensuring safety for the patient. Several quality fibres are available, but we will have to take into consideration the prevailing conditions in India, both in terms of cost and availability,” said Frank. The designers are expected to get going in a couple of months, he added. |

Thus, empowering you to write and share your blogs with your friends and network in one go.
