One killed, 40 injured as bus falls into gorge
An injured in the bus accident, at the General Hospital in Sector 6, Panchkula, on Tuesday. Panchkula, February 22
One person was killed and at least 40 others were injured when a bus carrying them skidded into a 150-metre deep gorge near Notla Health Resort, about 30 km from here, this evening. According to information, Ratti Ram (55) was killed on the spot while 40 others were injured in the incident.

Airport parking staff charging vehicles for dropoffs

If you thought that dropping off a friend, a colleague or a relative at the city’s airport costs nothing, except what one spends on fuel and the vehicle’s wear and tear, you are wrong. Visitors to the airport are being forced to shell out Rs 25 by the parking lot contractor, even for stopping for a minute to drop off passengers.

The municipal corporation has launched an “official” page on Facebook for posted an official page on which city residents can post their grievances on any shortcomings in civic amenities after the report ‘Laptops+Councillors=Error’ published in The Tribune on Tuesday. The initiative was launched by mayor Ravinder Pal Singh.

Gunmen beat up property dealer in Sector 37

High drama was witnessed in Sector 37 market late in the evening when gunmen of a Punjab MLA bashed up a property dealer, who was sitting in a gypsy with his mother.

NRI alleges harassment by traffic police

A Canada-based NRI has alleged harassment at the hands of Chandigarh Traffic police. In his complaint to Dilbag Singh, UT SP (traffic), alleged that he was stopped by the traffic police at the lightpoint leading to the cricket stadium and was subjected to unnecessary humiliation by the cops.

1 killed, one hurt in accident
Lalru, February 22
One person was killed and another injured in a road accident here today. The victims were hit by a canter this evening. The deceased was identified as Mangat Singh, a resident of Damaro village, Kaithal district, Haryana, who had come here to attend a marriage. He was standing near the highway when he was hit by the canter.

200 examined at medical camp

A free medical check-up camp was organised at here on Sunday in which a total of 200 patients were examined and were provided medicines free of cost.

The 40th annual athletics meet began at Smt Aruna Asaf Ali Government PG College, Kalka, here today. Dr Harvinder Sharma, college principal, hoisted the college sports flag to declare the athletics meet open. 19 students get cooking certificates

One convicted for culpable homicide
Chandigarh, February 22
A local court today convicted a person for killing his brother in 2009. The court convicted Om Prakash, resident of Sector 38 (West), in a case of culpable homicide not mounting to murder under section 304 (2) of IPC. The quantum of sentence will be pronounced tomorrow.

Councillor’s husband sent to police remand

The police today presented the husband of a local Congress councillor, Maneesh Gupta, in the district court here which remanded him to the police custody for one day.

Two arrested for kidnapping woman

The UT police arrested two persons, who allegedly kidnapped a Mumbai-based woman Pushpa Singh from a hotel in Sector 22. The case was registered on the complaint of her husband.

The UT police registered a case of cheating against three persons in separate incidents of fraud. The accused had duped two city residents on pretext of sending them aboard.
