Telecast of World Cup Matches
Operators, broadcasters at loggerheads
Deepankar Sharda

Chandigarh, February 22
The resist still prevails between operators and broadcasters, as there is no solution over telecasting the ICC-Cricket World Cup matches in the city, even on the fourth day of the championship.

Viewers today observed that the matches are being telecasted through a Bangladeshi channel with its logo on the top, instead of through the DTH service, which was used earlier.

But the issue could not dampen the spirit of cricket lovers, as the viewers are enjoying the World Cup matches on their television sets daily through various ways and means.

A source from the operators’ side revealed that at a meeting, which was held earlier, all bills were shown to the authorities and broadcasters were asked to flash signals to the cable operators.

“We have given the payment on time to multi-system operators (MSOs), but later we came to know that they failed to make the payment to the broadcasters,” said the source.

Adding further, “If there is any further delay in the payment from the upper authorities, we are not responsible for it and why our customers should get affected. No one wants to lose its business and we will give our best to telecast every match to our viewers,” stated the source.

The source also added, “They will not even hesitate to move to the court if there would be no response over the matter,” added the source.

On the other hand, a source in favour of one of the broadcasters, said, “It is the matter of MSOs and operators and we are not concern with the operators. We directly deal with MSOs and are responsible to them and we have a valid reason and legal support with us for the step taken,” said the source.
