Three SGPC employees  dismissed
: The SGPC on Wednesday dismissed three employees, including a woman, and placed one under suspension on the grounds of moral turpitude. According to information, they were allegedly found to be in a compromising position in the ‘sarai’ of the Golden Temple. Satwinder Singh has been suspended while Kashmir Singh, Paramjit Singh and a woman have been dismissed. Meanwhile, the person in charge of the ‘sarai’, Dilbagh Singh, has been transferred to Baba Bakala. SGPC president Avtar Singh said this kind of immoral activity could not be tolerated.

Annual function:
Government Girls Senior Secondary School organised the annual prize distribution function here on Wednesday. Local BJP MLA Jagdish Sawhney was the chief guest. Sawhney inaugurated the newly built science block. Students of the school presented a cultural programme. Sawhney gave away prizes to the students who have excelled in academics as well as co-curricular and sports activities.

New VAT Tribunal Chairman:
The Punjab Government has appointed Justice Harbans Lal (retd) as Chairman of the Punjab Value Added Tax Tribunal. An official spokesman here today said Justice Lal would exercise the functions conferred by the said Act in the state and that a notification to this effect had been issued.

Parkash Utsav: The news item published on Wednesday ‘Half day holiday’ had purported to say that the state government had declared a holiday for the second half of the day on Wednesday in its offices and offices of boards and corporations and in educational institutions located in Chandigarh and Mohali to facilitate the participation of its employees in nagar kirtan processions on the eve of the Parkash Utsav of Sri Guru Ravi Dass. Such offices and institutions in Punjab will remain closed for the second half of the day on February 17.

Conference
: The Indian Society of Nephrology, North Zone, is organising the 15th conference under the banner of “North Zone ISN-2011” from February 18 to 20 here. Around 150 nephrologists from across the North Indian states will attend the conference.

Woman’s body found:
The body of Sarabjit Kaur was found floating in a pond at Chack Saboo village here on Monday. Sarabjit’s sister-in-law Kulwinder Kaur has come out against the in-laws of the victim. Accusing them of murder, Kulwinder alleged that the in-laws continuous tortured Sarabjit for dowry. The police has registered a case under Section 304B of the IPC against victim’s husband Sodhi Ram and father-in-law Seeta Ram

Killed:
A middle-aged man was killed when he was hit by a vehicle near Jamalpur on the national high way here on Tuesday night. The vehicle driver sped away after the accident. The police has registered a case and sent the body to the Civil Hospital for postmortem. 

Raided: The SDM, Amarjit Pal, raided a anganwari centre at Rawalpindi village, Government Primary School at Bhaghana and Government Middle School at Bhabhiana here on Wednesday and inspected the working of these institutions. The SDM said about 50 per cent children were found absent in these centres.

One held
: A vigilance team has arrested the person in charge of the District Khadi Gram Udhyog, Mahinder Singh Sidhu, for allegedly accepting a bribe from a woman for getting her loan passed. DSP (Vigilance) Major Singh said Kulsoom had applied for a loan from the District Khadi Gram Udhyog to open a beauty parlour.

Jammu
Army jawan found dead
: An Army jawan, Sanjeev Saini (23), died under mysterious circumstances at the sentry post in the firing range of the Jourian area of the Akhnoor Sector on Wednesday. Sanjeev, son of Rumal Singh Saini, a resident of Bari Brahamana, was found dead with a bullet injury in his head, the police said. He had joined the Army three years ago. “At this stage of investigations, we can’t say anything about the death. It is a mystery, which would be solved after a post-mortem ,” said a police official at the Jourian post.

Smriti Irani to felicitate war widows: The president of the BJP Mahila Morcha, Smriti Irani, will felicitate war widows of the Jammu region on March 23. This was disclosed by the state president of the morcha, Sakina Bano, while addressing a meeting of office-bearers here on Wednesday. The state president of the BJP, Shamsher Singh Manhas, was also present. Sakina Bano said the BJP was inclined to strengthening and boosting the morale of the soldiers.

Five doctors suspended: The SDM, Gurez, Mohammad Ashraf Hakak, has suspended five doctors for being absent from duty at Gurez Sub District Hospital in Bandipora district.“The suspended doctors include a Block Medical Officer,” said an official source.
