PCA Stadium in no rush for NOC
Mohali, February 14
A no-objection certificate (NOC) has not been acquired by the PCA Stadium management from the fire brigade in connection with fire safety arrangements even as some ICC World Cup cricket matches will be held here next month. According to reports, three of these matches will be held in Mohali, the first being on March 3.
Notice to four cops in Khushpreet case

Admitting the complaint filed by an advocate in the Khushpreet murder case, the Police Complaint Authority (PCA) today issued a notice to four police officers. In the dock for negligence, the four police officers have been asked to file a reply for their inaction on March 4.
2 missing kids found
Dera Bassi, February 14
The Dera Bassi police has received a success in recovering the two missing children today.The children, who were nearly 4-year-old, suddenly went missing from Rauni Mohalla, Dera Bassi, this morning. The police found the children who were identified as Shivam son of Randheer Singh and Ayush Pandy son of Parkesh Pandey, residents of Rauni Mohalla Dera Bassi.
Of the toppers in Panjab varsity, 74% are women

Outshining boys in academics yet again, out of a total of 479 toppers in various subjects who received their degrees at the 60th Annual Convocation of Panjab University today, 351 were girls. While the share of girls was 74 per cent in the toppers’ list, another 30 per cent (147 out of a total of 479 students) received their PhD degrees today at the ceremony held in the gymnasium hall.

Topped in exams? Wait for 15 days to get medal

The ritualistic ceremony of awarding gold and silver medals to the toppers at Panjab University’s annual convocation was today given a miss, which resulted in disappointment among students, particularly those who had come to attend the ceremony from far off places in Punjab.

Suman’s woes go on
Cheque in hand, still no cash

Ironical as it may sound, Suman is unable to encash a cheque for Rs 50,000, given to her by the UT Administration as interim compensation for medical negligence, which led to the death of her baby in her womb and severe damage to her kidneys.

UT’s silence on phone calls questioned

Less than a week after the Punjab and Haryana High Court summoned the trial court record on the controversial teachers’ recruitment scam, the Bench today questioned UT’s silence on the telephonic conversations between the Director Public Instructions (DPI) Samwartak Singh and the accused.
Advocate arrested for thrashing constable

The Chandigarh Police today arrested two persons, including an advocate, for thrashing a police constable in full public view last night. The incident took place near the Police Colony at Sector 20 here.

MC to seek admn nod forfresh recruitment

The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation will take up the issue of recruiting 4,000 employees with the UT administration to fill vacancies. If the proposal gets the nod in the next fiscal, the civic body will incur an additional expenditure under the non-plan head of about Rs 80 crore on salaries.
Missing Class V student returns home

A Class V student of Mount Carmel School, Sector 47, went missing on Valentine’s Day as she failed to return from school. The student Shivangi Bhattacharya was later found in the evening after she returned to her home at Sector 46 in the evening on her own.

Gyanand Singh from Bhiwani, who has won the prestigious ‘Bhim Award’ for his contribution in paralympic athletics events, was among the seven awardees, who were given the ‘Bhim award’ for their contribution in the field of sports by the state government.

RTE Act guidelines issued to private schools

Cyclist killed
Zirakpur, February 14
A cyclist died after being hit by an unknown vehicle near the Fort Resort on the Dhakoli road here this late evening. The deceased was identified as Pandit Ishwar Tiwari, a resident of Dhakoli. He was working as a labourer.

Nikhil Sanouria, Class IX-B, Shaheen, Class IX-A, and Bharti, Class IX-B, secured the first, second and third prizes, respectively.
