Functioning under Zila Parishad
Bathinda, January 28 In the prevailing situation, when a rural medical officer prescribes a medicine (not available in the dispensary's stock) to the patient, then he or she has to buy it from the market. There are 59 rural dispensaries in Bathinda district which get medicines from the ZP medicine store here. The ZP medicine store itself is provided medicines by the Punjab Health Systems Corporation (PHSC) through the Civil Surgeon's office here. According to information, for the last time, the PHSC had sent medicines to the Civil Surgeon's Office, Bathinda in April 2010. The Civil Surgeon's office made the stock of those medicines available to the ZP authorities the same month. However, after that, no medicine has been sent by the PHSC to the Civil Surgeon's office in Bathinda so far. The Zila Parishad authorities had written a letter on November 4, 2010 to the Bathinda Civil Surgeon for supplying the medicines for rural dispensaries. In response to that letter, the Civil Surgeon wrote a letter on November 10, 2010 to the managing director (MD) of the PHSC to arrange the medicines, stating that during this year, no medicine has been supplied to the rural dispensaries, functioning under the ZP. However, in December 2010, the Zila Parishad authorities again wrote a letter to the Bathinda Civil Surgeon, regarding non-supply of medicines to the rural dispensaries, stating that as no supply of medicines is being made for the last six months, so shortage of medicines is being felt in the rural dispensaries. But the request was to no avail. Meanwhile, a member of the District Advisory Committee for Health Om Parkash Sharma has urged the authorities of the Health Department to supply the medicines for the Zila Parishad medicine store at the earliest as the poor patients in the villages have been suffering. He said the health authorities should understand the feelings of the Punjab Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister who have been emphasising on the health facilities for the common masses. |
