Patwari suspended:
Mohali Deputy Commissioner Parveen Kumar today suspended a patwari, Jasvir Singh, for issuing a wrong revenue document to an applicant. The patwari was in charge of Manauli and Rurka offices. An official disclosed that on October 12, last year, the patwari had issued a wrong mutation of a chunk of land to Vishal
Bhandhari.
Demolition drive: Enforcement staff of the Greater Mohali Area Development Authority today carried out a demolition drive at Jagatpura village this evening. Officials of GMADA disclosed that despite removing encroachments a number of times, vendors continued to violate rules with impunity.

Man arrested with 1kg charas: Ashok Kumar Sharma, 55, a resident of Prem Basti, street number 24, in Sangrur district, Punjab, was nabbed with one Kg charas today at Kadhali near Fagupul in the Banjar subdivision of this district.
Superintendent of police Abhishek Dular said a case under Section 20 of the NDPS Act was registered.

Rs 6.5 cr for education in Chamba: The Centre will spend a sum of Rs 6.50 crore in Chamba district under Sakshar Bharat Mission to impart functional education to illiterate in the age group of 15 and above with primary focus on women.
This was stated by Education Minister ID Dhiman presiding over the first meeting of the State Literacy Mission Authority under Saakshar Bharat Mission, yesterday. The project would be implemented in two years.
Heli-taxi plan takes off today:

Army jawan commits suicide: A jawan allegedly committed suicide by shooting himself with his service weapon at an Army camp in
Nagrota, near here, on Thursday. An Army spokesperson said 30-year-old Lance Naik Saji Kumar of the 651 Engineering Plant Unit was on duty when he fired at himself from his service rifle. He was having a domestic problem and in the morning he had got a phone call from his family after which he took the extreme step,he said. A court of inquiry had been initiated.

Traders protest in Pulwama: Tension gripped Pulwama town as traders and transporters held a protest on Friday demanding adequate and proper attention of the authorities to their problems. A delegation of traders, transporters and others representing various unions in the district headquarters earlier had a meeting with the District Development Commissioner and submitted a memorandum to him containing various demands. The officer assured the delegation that all necessary steps were being taken and proper attention being given to various issues pertaining to development works.
3 boys prevented from joining militants: The police has rescued three boys from joining militancy and handed them over to their parents in the Yaripora area of Kulgam district of south Kashmir on Thursday. The boys were identified as Adil Hussain Baba, Adil Ahmad Dar and Asif Ahmad Ganaie of Kujar village in the Yaripora area. They were students of class IX and X and had approached one surrendered militant for joining militancy, but the later refused to help them, the police added. Keeping in view their age, the police advised the young boys to peruse their studies.

Subsidised foodgrain scheme: Uttarakhand Food and Civil Supplies Minister Diwakar Bhatt today said from February 1, state will be providing wheat at the rate of Rs 4.65/kg and rice at Rs 6.15/kg for the BPL families in the state. He said similarly, APL families will be getting wheat at the rate of Rs 6.40/kg and rice Rs 8.45/kg.
