Medical shop raided
: A team of the Health Department seized intoxicants worth Rs 20,000 from a medical store owned by Gursimranjit Singh at Baba Bakala near here today. Civil Surgeon Dr Chandanjit Singh Kondal said during the raid, the department recovered 1,646 capsules, 1,900 tablets and 60 cough syrups from the shop.

Narcotics seized
: A police party of police station Sekhwan nabbed Surjit Kumar of Budha Kot village with 500 gm narcotic powder, during patrolling at the same village. A case under Sections 21, 61 and 85 of the NDPS Act was registered.

Gymnasts honoured
: The Pt Mohan Lal S.D College for Women honoured gymnasts Sarabjit, Kanica Sharma and Mandeep Kaur, who did the institution proud by performing well in the 36th National Sports Festival held at Chhattisgarh recently. Priya Majahan, a student of BCA (final year) who topped the elocution event in the GND University inter-zonal youth festival held at Amritsar recently, was also felicitated.

Demand for regularisation
: Members of the Public Works Department Field and Workshop Workers Union have flayed the government for ignoring their long-pending demand for regularisation of daily wagers. “The government should accept our demands otherwise we would stage a protest in CM’s constituency at Lambi on January 20,” said the union.

: Landowners today protested against acquisition of land for widening of Mullanpur-Siswan road. A number of landowners met Estate Officer Balbir Singh after getting notices from the estate office. GMADA had changed alignment of road near Mullanpur after residents apprehended demolition of their houses.

Beggar’s body found
: A man in his sixties was found dead near the Bikram Chowk here on Monday. The police said the deceased, a beggar, was homeless and probably died due to cold.The body was found near the rotary and some passersby informed the Nehru Market police post. The police said the body was taken to Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) here for a post-mortem. Inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC have been started.

Youths join NSF: A large number of youths from Gandhi Nagar, Trikuta Nagar, Digiana and Nai Basti areas joined the National Secular Forum (NSF) here on Sunday. According to a statement issued here, NSF president Vikas Sharma welcomed the youths. Sharma conducted a convention at Gandhi Nagar and listened to the problems being faced by students and people of the areas. He alleged that nothing had been done so far by the authorities concerned and the Jammu Municipal Corporation to overcome the problems being faced by the area residents.

Militants’s sympathiser held: The security forces apprehended a sympathiser of militants from the Gagarsola area of Ramban district on Monday. An official note issued by the Army here stated that a joint column of the Rashtriya Rifles and the police apprehended an overground worker of the militants from the Gagarsola area in Ramban district. He has been identified as Gulzar Ahmed, 30, a resident of Gagarsola.
