Youth’s death in accident triggers protest
4 hurt as police uses force to disperse protesters
Ludhiana, November 13
A 22-year-old youth was killed when a speeding truck ran him down on the Ferozepur road here today. This triggered protest by commuters, which resulted in a mild cane charge by the police to disperse the protesters, causing minor injuries to four persons.

Disposal of explosives from today
Villagers fear collateral damage

With the Army all set to dispose of around 200 quintals of explosives in its weeklong drive, the administration is treading cautiously by conducting the drive in phases.Deputy Commissioner Rahul Tiwari said he had coordinated with the Army and the disposal of explosives would take place in phases.

In complete disregard to the inconvenience caused to motorists, residents and commercial establishments continue to dig freshly-carpeted roads even as the municipal corporation authorities look the other way.In a recent case, the road connecting Mata Rani Chowk to Bhadaur House, which was carpeted just 10 days ago, has been dug to lay sewerage by the owner of a hotel.

Teachers decry govt’s move to stagger arrears

Resentment is growing among government college teachers in the state over Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal’s decision to pay arrears following the fifth pay commission’s in three equal instalments over three years. “We had already waited for a long time to get these arrears. Now when the Central government plans to release the funds shortly the money should be disbursed immediately”, said many teachers.

Ram Lal: Students of Ram Lal Bhasin Public School celebrated Children’s Day with great zeal and enthusiasm. Staff and students remembered the country’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru and admired his statesmanship. The celebrations began with students giving a message on the significance of life of the great personality. Speeches, poetry, movie shows, picnic were the main attractions. A trip was also organised for Montessori classes to Hardy’s World. Students had a gala time. President of the school Balraj Bhasin sent his best wishes to all. Headmistress of the school Tarannum Fatma highlighted the achievements of Pandit Nehru and encouraged students to help the needy.

The tehbazari wing of municipal corporation today removed tents and gates that were put up in the city in connection with a recently-held religious function.Traffic remained disrupted for about 20 to 30 minutes as the gates installed at Fountain Chowk were removed during the peak hours. Commuters had to face inconvenience.

Punjab retain title

Hosts, Punjab circle added two more gold medals to its kitty and emerged victorious to retain the title in the 10th All-India Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) Cycling Meet organised by the Punjab Circle Sports and Cultural Board that concluded at Punjab Agricultural University velodrome here today. Punjab riders won the overall championship in the last edition of this meet held in Jaipur.
