The police rounded up about two dozen youths carrying baseball bats and rods even as sporadic incidents involving minor scuffles occurred during elections for the Panjab University students’ council today. One of the boys was apprehended with a “country made” pistol.

The grandmother of the 14-year-old inmate of Snehalaya who was raped and is now pregnant, has gone missing. The Home Secretary, Ram Niwas, said her grandmother was missing and the authorities of the institute said she was probably in hospital.

Computers damaged at Mohali administrative complex

A number of visitors who had come for work at the District Administrative Complex in Phase 1 here were inconvenienced after the computer systems installed in various branches were damaged due to high voltage. Other electrical gadgets also got burnt due to erratic power supply.

Rs. 2-cr cancer treatment machine gathers dust at GMCH

A machine costing about Rs 2 crore that was meant for treating cancer patients has been rendered useless even before it could be commissioned at the Government Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32 due to lack of coordination between hospital officials and the union information technology ministry. The machine was supplied to GMCH seven years ago in July 2003.

MC to float tenders again
