Anandpur Sahib
Flood waters recede
: Water has started receding from the flood-hit villages of Anandpur Sahib in Punjab. On the request of the district administration, the Bhakra Beas Management Board authorities have already reduced release of water from the Bhakra reservoir by 10,000 cusecs. With lesser water flowing in the Satluj, the villages have heaved a sigh of relief. “The situation has started improving. After a week of floods, the situation is comparatively better,” said a villager from Lodhipur.With less water inflows in Bhakra reservoir, the situation is expected to improve further in next few days.

Adesh instt cagers triumph
: Students of the Adesh Institute of Medical Sciences and Research, Bathinda, won the basketball competition during an inter-college fest titled ‘Syndrome’ organised by the Government Medical College, Amritsar. Col Dr GPI Singh, director principal, felicitated players Gurpreet Kaur Khatra, Jaspreet Kaur Sandhu, Kiranjit Kaur Cheema, Punit Saini, Manvi Talwar, Bharti Kondal, Bhavika Jakhu, Taniya Mahe and coach Gagandeep Talwar.

Bus driver suspended
: A driver of the Punjab Roadways has been placed under suspension for drunken driving. General Manager, Punjab Roadways, Ferozepur, ordered the suspension of Gurmeet Singh with immediate effect on charges of negligence of duty. 

Paramedics to stage dharna: The paramedics of Khui Khera, Dabwala Kalan, Fazilka, Sito Guno, Jandwala Bhimeshah and Abohar blocks have decided to hold a dharna at the Primary Health Centre of village Khui Khera on September 3 to protest against the non-acceptance of their demands. It was decided in a special meeting organised here on Friday.

:The Leisure Valley Club was set up on Thursday, with Pritam Singh as chairman and Bhupinder Singh Solan as president. Other office-bearers are: vice-chairman — Harminder Singh Dua, vice-president — Jaskaran Singh, general secretary — Narinder Pal Singh Bhandari, secretary — Lakhwinder Singh.

2 held with heroin
: The Dinanagar police seized 750 gm of heroin worth of Rs 4 crore from a car coming from Jammu and Kashmir at the T-point Balsua More on the Amritsar-Jammu road here today. On a tip-off, the police and Special Crime Branch put up a joint naka. A car (JK-02-AB-5127) coming from the J & K side was signalled to stop and a search was conducted. The police succeeded to nab two of the three smugglers, identified as Vishal Singh, a resident of Gottar Lari village, and Amunal Masih of Gul Pur Simbli village, and seized 750 gm of heroin from them.

Seminar on women rights
: The local district legal authorities organised a seminar at the Fatehbad township, 20 km from here, spreading awareness among women for health, child care and their day-to-day problems. Ravinder Kumar Kondal, Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM), Jagjit Kaur Walia, Assistant District  Attorney, Dr Manider Kaur, Medical Officer, Community Health Centre, Goindwal Sahib spoke on the occasion.

Youth shot dead by gangsters
: Naresh (24), a resident of Baiyanpur village and a convict in his brother’s murder case, was on Friday shot dead in broad day light outside a car workshop at local Atlas Road by motorbike-borne armed gangsters.
A case has been registered against the unidentified persons. 

Sadhna Taneja is Sonepat MC chief: The toss favoured BJP nominee Sadhna Taneja in her election as chairperson of the Sonepat Municipal Council. BJP candidate Suresh Tushir was elected as vice-chairman of the council defeating Congress candidate Praveen Tushir by a margin of 14-11 in a three-corner contest held here on Friday.
